The streaks of light on the panel caused Leon's lowered eyelids to lift slightly.
He could actually gain experience points directly by reading a Divine Spell Codex?
Did this mean that, in addition to slowly grinding for experience step by step, he had found another way to rapidly level up his divine spells?
On the panel:
【Holy Light Meditation XP +1】
【Holy Light Meditation Lv1 (4/100) → Holy Light Meditation Lv1 (67/100)】
In an incredibly short amount of time, Leon's knowledge of 【Holy Light Meditation】 had jumped from nothing to a Level 1 divine spell with 67 experience points.
In the blink of an eye, a vast amount of techniques regarding 【Holy Light Meditation】 flooded into his mind.
How to use meditation to strengthen mental power, how to adjust one's state to enter the optimal meditative realm, how to use meditation to deepen one's understanding of other divine spells...
These techniques were not easily obtained; they were precious experiences refined through long years of trial and error by predecessor priests.
It could be said that Leon had thoroughly and completely comprehended the 【Holy Light Meditation】 codex in his hands.
With the help of the divine spell panel, he had perfectly absorbed every insight contained within the priest's work.
Unlike other priests studying the codices, whose level of comprehension depended entirely on talent and luck, Leon had taken it all.
As Leon mastered the spell, the 【Holy Light Meditation】 codex in front of him seemed to lose its luster, appearing dull.
Leon understood that this was because he had consumed the power of 【Divine Grace Guidance】 contained within the book during his reading.
Every time a priest used a Divine Spell Codex to study, it would deplete the 【Divine Grace Guidance】 power within. After several uses, the power would dissipate, and the codex would be reduced to an ordinary Divine Spell Book, no longer possessing the power to transmit a high-level priest's insights.
It was said that some Divine Spell Codices reaching the 5th Rank 【Epic】 or even 6th Rank 【Legendary】 levels were currently sealed by the Pope in the depths of the Sacred Light Church's forbidden grounds in the capital.
Unless a priest possessed extraordinary talent, profound divine grace, and had achieved significant merits, it was impossible to obtain such codices from the Church for study.
This was because most of the authors of such high-level codices had already passed away; every time such a codex was studied, its remaining uses dwindled.
Leon couldn't help but wonder: if he could get his hands on a codex of that level from the Church and master all its spells using his panel, wouldn't he be able to walk through the gray mist with total impunity?
Unfortunately, it was just a dream for now.
His mental strength was currently only at the 1st Rank 【Bronze】. Between him and the 5th Rank 【Epic】 or 6th Rank 【Legendary】 levels, he was still separated by four ranks—Silver, Gold, and Diamond.
Even if he mastered a fifth or sixth-rank spell, he wouldn't be able to cast it; even a single ultimate move would squeeze every last drop of his mental strength dry!
Pulling his wandering thoughts back, Leon set down 【Holy Light Meditation】 and picked up 【Hammer of Holy Light】.
【Comprehending Divine Spell Codex: Hammer of Holy Light】
【Hammer of Holy Light XP +1】
【Hammer of Holy Light Lv0 → Hammer of Holy Light Lv1 (1/100)】
...
Miles stood outside the sanctuary, hands clasped in prayer for the Mass of the God of Sacred Light.
After finishing his prayers, Miles turned around and heard a sound behind him. "My child, what doubts have you encountered?"
Having risen from an Apprentice Priest to a Bishop, Miles possessed profound knowledge of divine spells.
He had dedicated himself entirely to the Sacred Light Church. He had no parents, no relatives, no wife, and no children; his only hobby was guiding the young priests who were devoted to the Sacred Light and diligent in their studies.
However, things were different from what he expected.
Leon did not emerge from the sanctuary with doubts to ask. Instead, he bowed respectfully, handed the two codices back, and said:
"Bishop Miles, I have already mastered these two divine spells."
"What?" Miles's face filled with bewilderment, almost thinking he had misheard.
How long had it been since he gave the codices to Leon?
Ten minutes? Twenty minutes?
Yet the young man before him claimed to have already mastered them.
For a moment, Miles felt a mix of amusement, irritation, and a faint spark of anticipation.
He was amused by Leon's lack of humility, irritated by his arrogance, and yet he couldn't help but wonder: "Is it possible he really is a genius?"
But ultimately, Miles suppressed all stray thoughts.
The God of Sacred Light taught believers to be humble, tolerant, and trusting. Therefore, he did not question or mock Leon, but responded seriously:
"In that case, my child, let us discuss these two spells together."
...
A moment later.
"Sacred Light preserve us!"
Miles tapped his fingers lightly against his chest in the Sign of the Sacred Light.
At this moment, the look in his eyes as he watched Leon was one of disbelief, yet faced with an undeniable reality.
How could someone grasp the insights within a Divine Spell Codex so thoroughly and clearly?
Miles looked at Leon and praised, "Your comprehension of these two spells is exactly the same as mine!"
Leon looked at Miles. "Bishop Miles, did you write these two codices?"
Miles nodded with satisfaction.
In Solainem, no one's divine spell mastery surpassed his own. Naturally, the codices kept in the various churches of Solainem were written by him.
However, after seeing the satisfaction on Miles's face, Leon quietly opened his divine spell panel.
【Holy Light Meditation Lv1 (67/100)】
【Hammer of Holy Light Lv1 (75/100)】
Your comprehension isn't that great either!
You don't even have a single Level 2 spell!
But Leon quickly realized something.
It wasn't that Miles's comprehension was lacking, but that his own divine spell panel was simply too broken!
After all, who else could increase their experience just by casting a spell?
Take 【Holy Light Meditation】 for example. As a spell that could increase mental strength, it was a mandatory spell for every Formal Priest of the Sacred Light Church.
As a Bishop with mental strength at the Gold rank, Miles must have cast 【Holy Light Meditation】 countless times, day and night.
Yet his experience in 【Holy Light Meditation】 was only 67. This was enough to show how difficult it was for a priest without a panel to increase their mastery.
In contrast, Leon only needed to get a "Poor" rating when casting a spell to steadily gain 1 experience point...
Furthermore, Leon recalled that he rarely heard of other priests' spells having additional effects.
Light Prayer was just a glowing orb to light the way, Healing was just a weak curative effect, and Hammer of Holy Light was just a small hammer made of light.
Only a few who received the favor of the Sacred Light, or even those who became a 【God-Chosen of Sacred Light】, had effects that surpassed the spells themselves.
In that case, were those so-called God-Chosen simply people who had leveled a spell from Lv1 to Lv2 and gained a special enhancement trait?
Recalling the legends of the God-Chosen, Leon suddenly felt the mystique had vanished.
"It feels inferior to... the divine spell panel."
