Chapter 172 · Volume 1

Interference Device! Exploring the Ruins Again

The believers who had attended the Mass had already departed.
Inside the Rose Cathedral, the captain of the Limit Warband's 13th Squad removed his helmet, revealing a steadfast face.
Upon his forehead were two golden studs, representing over sixty years of service in the warband.
“Titus of the Limit Warband's 13th Squad pays his respects to Young Master Leon!”
Titus cradled his helmet in his arms, kneeling on one knee in the posture of a Limit warrior as he paid his respects to Leon.
“There's no need to be so formal. Make yourself at home,” Leon said with a smile as he helped Titus to his feet.
He looked at the blue and gold armor worn by the Limit warriors and felt the aura radiating from them, highly satisfied.
They were truly worthy of being the Heron Empire's Second Warband; their equipment, momentum, and strength were all exceptional!
The Limit armor worn by these Limit warriors was a powerful gear forged through a combination of alchemy and magic, granting them dual immunity to both physical and magical attacks.
As for the weapons in their hands, they were greatswords as thick as stone slabs, lined with serrated teeth on both sides.
This greatsword was known as a chainsword, another product forged through the combined efforts of alchemical technology and magic.
When a Limit warrior channeled Battle Qi into the chainsword, the magical runes within would instantly activate, causing the serrated teeth to spin at a terrifying speed.
Just like a chainsaw, when the rapidly spinning teeth cut into an enemy, whether they wore heavy armor or possessed tough hide, they would be sliced open like paper by the chainsword, which was imbued with cutting magic!
It could be said that the warriors of the Limit Warband were armed to the teeth from head to toe, their entire bodies equipped with magical items.
No other faction besides great empires like Heron and Nightmare could afford such a luxurious practice of equipping warband warriors with magical items!
Furthermore, as warriors of the empire's Second Warband, the minimum strength of every Limit warrior was at the Silver rank.
A fully armed squad of Limit warriors like Titus's, coordinating with their battle formation, would have no trouble dealing with a Gold rank powerhouse like Viscount Finn or Bishop Miles.
The Sage King really went all out with his investment this time...
Leon thought to himself as he looked over the Limit warriors.
Gathering his thoughts, Leon turned to Ratahn and said,
“Ratahn, take Brother Titus to familiarize him with the surrounding environment, and explain to him the staffing and functions of the guards around me.”
“Yes, Young Master.” Ratahn quickly withdrew his envious gaze from the Limit armor upon hearing this.
He then led Titus and the others away to explain the situation in Eldenborg and the precautions for guarding Leon.
Whether it was Ratahn, who had been promoted by Leon, or Titus, the squad captain, both were clever men to have risen to their current positions.
Thus, their communication was exceptionally smooth.
After all, Ratahn knew that Young Master Leon's strength had grown too quickly, reaching the Gold rank in just half a year.
Falcon warriors like themselves, who were only at the Bronze rank, might look impressive elsewhere, but beside Young Master Leon, they were completely inadequate.
If they encountered a slightly stronger enemy, not only would they fail to protect Leon, but they might even end up needing his protection instead.
Handing over the duty of protecting Leon to the stronger Limit warriors was the best choice at this moment.
For Limit warriors like Titus, being reassigned from the front lines to the rear just to protect a single target was undoubtedly a transfer that caused some initial dissatisfaction in their hearts.
However, when their superiors informed them that the target to be protected was Leon Douglas, Titus's dissatisfaction vanished instantly. Without a second thought, he gathered his brothers and set off directly for Eldenborg.
Why?
Because this was Leon Douglas!
He was the hero who saved Soleneum, the Governor of the Southern Province entrusted with heavy responsibilities by His Majesty the Sage King, the fierce man who organized the punitive expedition against the Mad Shark King, and the peerless genius of the new generation who had annihilated the bishop of the Black and White Hand!
Now that the undead army of the Dusk Sea was growing restless, following Leon meant they would have the chance to fight against the undead army of the Burns Court.
And guarding the borders, conquering powerful enemies, and earning military exploits were precisely the supreme honors that every warband warrior yearned for!
By the time the guard duties were handed over, it was already noon.
Leon hosted a simple welcoming banquet in the cathedral to welcome Titus and the other warriors who had traveled from afar.
Afterward, without further delay, he led the Limit warriors and Falcon warriors out of Eldenborg, heading toward Jellyfish Town.
...
Jellyfish Town.
At the ruins of the Zachary Manor.
“Young Master Leon! I did not disappoint you. This Mana Charging Interference Device is finally complete!”
Scott, the sole survivor of the Alchemy Guild, led Leon to a massive machine, speaking with a look of self-satisfaction on his face:
“I examined the charging modules of those Gramophone Golems and found that they... So, by reverse-interfering with the alchemical charging modules...”
Scott babbled on and on, but Leon couldn't understand a word of it.
Although he had taken some alchemy classes within his family, it was only superficial, a matter of simple exposure.
The alchemical technology Scott spoke of, however, utilized relatively advanced alchemical technology of the current era.
To Leon, listening to him felt like taking an English listening comprehension test.
Though he could catch a few familiar words here and there, he had absolutely no idea what the sentences actually meant.
“So in other words, the purpose of this device is to interfere with the Gramophone Golems' mana charging, causing them to lose their mobility due to a lack of energy, all without causing any destructive damage to them?” Leon finally asked.
“Uh... yes, that's pretty much what it means,” Scott said, nodding.
“Then that's enough.”
Leon nodded slightly. These Gramophone Golems were, after all, his "farming zone" for grinding experience points.
Although the efficiency was low, unable to compare to hunting down enemies or farming Kamas for experience.
Still, it was a low-experience zone nonetheless. It was a good fallback, and preserving them was definitely for the best.
“Activate the device.” Leon commanded.
Receiving the command, Scott pressed a button on the five-meter-tall device, which resembled a signal tower.
Hummm, hummm, hummm—
The device immediately let out a low, rumbling engine hum. A deep blue energy fluid surged rapidly from the energy pool at the very bottom, flowing into the device like blood through veins.
Accompanied by the clicking sound of gears turning, the alchemical apparatus at the top, resembling a satellite dish, emitted waves of tangible mana surges.
This mana surge rippled outward, sweeping over the wandering Gramophone Golems outside the Zachary Manor.
Clack, clack!
As if they had drunk some sleeping tea, the movements of the Gramophone Golems began to stiffen.
As the mana surge continued to spread, the Gramophone Golems grew stiffer and stiffer until the mana absorption modules inside them were completely suppressed, rendering them entirely immobile.
“It worked!”
Scott clenched his right fist tightly, an excited look on his face.
Although he was highly confident in his alchemical talent, this was the first time he had built such a device, and he had still harbored some anxiety.
If it hadn't worked, he couldn't even imagine what an angry Leon would have chopped him into...
Fortunately, he had succeeded!
“What is the range of the device?” Leon asked, looking at the silent Gramophone Golems.
“Three hundred meters!” Scott said proudly.
“Every alchemical golem within three hundred meters will be affected by the device.”
“Beyond three hundred meters, it depends on whether the terrain and mana conditions allow the mana shockwave to reach them. If the wave can reach, golems within five hundred meters will also be affected.”
“That's plenty.” Leon glanced at Scott. Credit where credit was due, this man truly possessed a remarkable talent for alchemy.
To handcraft such a machine entirely on his own in just over half a month was no small feat.
He was indeed a talent.
Therefore, Leon had to have a special way of treating talents.
With that in mind, Leon held his priest's scepter horizontally. Bright Sacred Light flickered at his fingertips as he began to play upon it.
