Chapter 138 · Volume 1

Leon: Dammit! Again?!

【Comprehending Divine Art Scripture: Long-Range Enhancement】
【Long-Range Enhancement EXP +53】
【Long-Range Enhancement Lv0 (0/1) → Long-Range Enhancement Lv1 (52/100)】
Streamers of light flashed across his panel, allowing Leon to master a brand-new buff-type Divine Art from scratch.
True to its name, this Divine Art's effect was to enhance a priest's long-range attacks.
Any Divine Art that fit the attack formats of "projected release" or "long-range attack" could be boosted by 【Long-Range Enhancement】.
With Leon's current arsenal, the Hammer of Sacred Light fired from his Radiance Longbow, the air cannon from his Wind-Whisper Heavy Cannon, and the petrification beam from his Petrification Curse would all receive the buff from 【Long-Range Enhancement】.
Once the comprehension was complete, Leon set down the 【Divine Art Scripture】 for Long-Range Enhancement and handed it back to Miles.
“Priest Leon, you finished comprehending it?” Miles asked in surprise as he took back the Divine Art Scripture.
Leon nodded slowly. “Yes, I've fully comprehended it. Thank you for the Divine Art Scripture, Bishop Miles.”
“Hiss!”
Miles instantly sucked in a cold breath.
He had previously witnessed Leon quickly comprehending two Divine Art Scriptures back at Soleneum Cathedral. However, handing the scripture to Leon in person and watching him fully master the spell recorded within in less than thirty seconds still left Miles utterly shocked.
This truly was an unrivaled talent for Divine Arts!
It was simply terrifying!
Seeing Miles's reaction, Leon smiled. Just as he was about to speak, his ears suddenly twitched.
“Dong! Dong! Dong!”
The loud, resonant tolling of bells suddenly echoed from afar, reverberating across the sky of the entire Stormveil City.
“Three bells!” came the shocked and panicked cries of other priests from the cathedral outside the sanctuary. “A city-wide crisis warning! Something has happened in the city!”
Hearing the three tolls, Leon and Miles, who had been about to continue their conversation, both had their expressions change dramatically.
Bad memories of Soleneum quickly flooded their minds.
“Are you kidding me? Again?!”
Without another word, Leon rushed out of the cathedral and looked toward the distant horizon, with Miles hot on his heels.
Only after looking around and confirming that there was no gloomy Gray Fog rolling toward Stormveil City did Leon and Miles breathe a sigh of relief.
“Thank goodness it's not the Gray Fog...”
Leon had almost triggered his PTSD.
Right after transmigrating, he had been chased away from his town by the Gray Fog and forced to flee to Soleneum.
Not long after settling down in Soleneum, the city's Gray Fog barrier was destroyed, and they suffered a Gray Fog invasion.
Now, after traveling thousands of miles from the northern part of the empire to the southern tip, if there was still a damn Gray Fog invasion, Leon would seriously begin to suspect if the Gray Fog was targeting him specifically!
“Even if it's not the Gray Fog, three bells still mean something major has happened in the city!”
Miles also let out a sigh of relief upon seeing it wasn't the Gray Fog, but a solemn expression quickly returned to his face as he spoke to Leon.
“Priest Leon, I need to head to City Hall to find out what's going on with these three bells. You...”
“I'll go with you.”
Leon nodded to him and said quickly.
A moment later.
When the two used their Divine Arts to arrive at City Hall, they found the hall already in utter chaos.
“Mana readings are abnormal! The data sent back from all detection nodes in the Dusk Sea is showing anomalies!”
“The tide is receding rapidly! The coastal sensors in the Dusk Sea have detected a massive drop in sea levels. This is a precursor to an impending tsunami!”
“Quick! Immediately contact all coastal towns and villages along the Dusk Sea via communication stones! Tell them to urgently activate their magic shields and prepare for the tsunami impact with everything they've got!”
“South! A massive mana fluctuation has been detected near the southern gate... Judging by the monitoring results, a group of creatures with immense mana is rapidly approaching the outer city!”
Hearing the reports from the officials and mages in the hall, Leon and Miles walked out of City Hall and climbed to the nearest high point, looking toward Stormveil City's southern gate.
There, in the sky above the southern gate.
A flock of multi-colored creatures was rapidly approaching Stormveil City from the southern horizon.
They were slender and massive, each covered in scales as hard as gemstones or metal.
They possessed immense wings with tough membranes; every flap seemed to whip up a low, howling gale.
The mana fluctuations naturally radiating from their bodies carried a mysterious and majestic aura.
Leon recognized these creatures at first glance.
They were transcendent creatures recorded in ancient texts, hailed as the apex race at the very top of the food chain—dragons!
“Wait, something is wrong!” Miles, with his wealth of experience, immediately noticed something amiss.
“Green dragons, blue dragons, black dragons... The divisions between the different branches of the Dragon race have always been incredibly deep. There is no way so many different types of dragons would join forces to attack Stormveil City!”
“Even if they could temporarily put aside their differences, they wouldn't charge at the city walls so recklessly—”
“Whether it's the city defense magic towers or the alchemical ballistae, both are more than capable of posing a fatal threat to them!”
“Something must be affecting their minds, driving them into a frenzy. That's the only reason they would charge toward the southern wall so fearlessly!”
Hearing this, Leon also noticed that these dragons had blood-red eyes, their heads filled with an unnatural rage and bloodlust.
However...
“Bishop Miles, never mind what is affecting these dragons, they are about to crash into the southern gate!” Leon said quickly.
“We need to get to the southern gate and help the defending soldiers hold them off!”
Miles nodded, fully understanding the urgency of the situation.
No matter what was affecting the dragons, the reality was that they were attacking the city, and they had to beat them back with their fists first!
“Let's go!”
Miles did not delay any further, quickly rushing toward the southern gate with Leon to confront the dragons.
...
Meanwhile.
On the other side, above the Dusk Sea.
“Is this what you fucking meant by 'won't cause too much of an impact'?”
Ian, the Shadow King and one of the Four Kings of the Dusk Sea, yelled at the top of his lungs, glaring furiously at the Frozen King beside him.
At this moment, the Four Kings of the Dusk Sea were within the ruins of the Burns Merman Court, where a rigid magic barrier blocked their path of further exploration.
The Four Kings had already worked together to explore nearly ninety percent of these Burns Merman Court ruins, leaving only the final inner court area of the court.
However, they had been unable to enter and explore this inner court area due to the obstruction of yet another magic barrier.
The magic model of this barrier was completely different from modern ones. Even with the Four Kings attacking it together for two and a half days, they had failed to breach it.
Finally, the Frozen King suggested a method: leveraging a mana focus in the Dusk Sea to generate a mana surge to blast the barrier open.
A mana surge was equivalent to a tsunami shockwave; although there was a high probability it could break the magic barrier, it would also cause a massive impact on all living creatures in the Dusk Sea.
However, since they were completely unable to open the final barrier of the ruins, and because the Frozen King had guaranteed she could control the power of the mana surge to prevent it from causing too much of an impact on others in the Dusk Sea, the other three Kings had ultimately agreed to her plan.
Yet... judging by the Frozen King's nearly frozen expression and the extremely grim faces of the other three Kings, it was highly obvious that the power of this mana surge had far exceeded the expectations of all four Kings!
What made them feel even more uneasy was that, under that incredibly violent mana surge, the magic barrier in front of them still remained completely unmoved!
Instead, a strange fluctuation was faintly radiating from the inner side of the barrier.
For a ruin that had been silent for thousands of years to suddenly exhibit fluctuations like a living thing—this was clearly not a good sign!
