“Senior Sevis!”
“I know!”
Footsteps echoed in a chaotic, hurried rush down the narrow corridor of the school building.
Sevis ran at the very front, leading a few students in a desperate sprint. Behind them, a pack of hideous, canine-like magical beasts pursued, their sharp claws scratching madly against the floor with an ear-piercing screech.
At the back of the group, a female student had completely exhausted her stamina. She felt her legs as heavy as lead, and every step she took was accompanied by violent gasps for air.
Just as she stumbled and tried to pick up her pace, a thick, foul stench washed over her from behind.
A massive wolf had silently closed in at some point. Its heavy breaths almost blew against the back of her neck, and the low growls rumbling in its throat sounded as if it would crush her windpipe in the next second.
“Run first!”
Sevis gripped his wand tightly with his right hand, a flash of golden light flickering in his eyes.
“Vento...”
“Disĵeti!”
Accompanied by a blinding light, a complex white magic circle suddenly bloomed in the air.
Instantly, a violent gale rose from the ground, violently blowing away the wolf mid-pounce. The powerful blast of air swept through the surroundings, slowing down the charge of the other magical beasts.
However, the wolf managed to twist its body mid-air, digging its claws into the ground like steel nails. Sliding several meters from the momentum, it firmly stabilized itself.
“Tsk! Run!”
Sevis wanted to cast another spell, but feeling that his mana was nearly depleted, he had no choice but to grab her cold, slightly trembling hand and pull her along as they fled toward safety.
Damn it, why are there so many magical beasts!
The instructors aren't here either, and the academy hasn't sent anyone to handle this!
What on earth is going on?!
If I hadn't consumed so much mana while handling official business, I wouldn't be struggling to cast even a single spell right now!
Recalling the effect of that Tier 2 wind spell from earlier, Sevis found the situation incredibly troublesome.
How could a Tier 2 spell cast by a Tier 4 Mage like himself fail to even harm those magical beasts?
“I have to use a Tier 3 spell or higher!”
“And the space here is too cramped!”
As he ran, Sevis rapidly calculated his options.
Because the various buildings of the Arcane Department were interconnected, the corridors here were much longer than those of ordinary schools.
The narrow space made it difficult to gather the beasts together; he had to maximize the efficiency of his magic!
Suddenly, a blazing fireball exploded ahead without warning. Peering through the billowing smoke, Sevis saw that the students ahead were already locked in a bitter struggle, pinned down by a fresh wave of oncoming magical beasts.
They were cornered from both sides.
“Run toward me!”
Sevis shouted as a rapid, sonorous chant spilled from his lips.
“Tero!”
With a soft click, the floor beneath his feet split open as if cut by an invisible blade, leading directly to the floor below.
Rather than mindlessly expelling his mana, he knew how to use his imagination to dominate the battlefield.
Leading the students, he jumped through the opening and landed stably, then quickly urged, “Hurry, get out of here! Go to the Titan Prosecution Office!”
“Senior, what about you...?”
A trace of worry flashed in the student's eyes, clearly noticing that Sevis was currently in a terrible state.
But Sevis ignored it, shoving them toward the exit of the building.
“Reporting this is what you need to do right now!”
“Go!”
Just as he finished speaking, a dark shadow suddenly lunged from behind the last female student. Lacking the time to cast a spell, Sevis threw himself forward, taking the blow with his arm.
The beast's teeth sank deep into his forearm. With a muffled groan, he immediately raised his arm and slammed the beast violently against the adjacent wall.
Although it was only a Tier 1 beast, Sevis's arm was bleeding profusely.
“Senior, your arm!”
“I'm sorry, I...”
Sevis shook his head, quickly tearing a strip of cloth from his uniform to bind the wound. “I'm fine!”
“You guys, get her out of here, quickly!”
...
To the sound of heavy, chaotic footsteps, several disheveled students finally stumbled out of the school building.
Extreme physical exhaustion left them unable to support their own weight. The moment they stepped onto the flat ground outside, they collapsed like jelly, gasping greedily for fresh air.
“We should be... safe now!”
“No, we can't stop here!”
“Right, Senior Sevis told us to report this to the Titan Prosecution Office immediately!”
It wasn't just their physical strength; the previous battle had also completely drained what little mana they had left.
“I want to rest a bit more,” the only female student in the group said weakly. But soon, as if she had spotted something, intense terror flooded her eyes.
“Over there! There are more over there!”
Her voice seemed to trigger a deadly switch. In an instant, five hideous magical beasts lunged from the shadows in the distance, rushing toward them at high speed.
The others looked in the direction she was pointing.
Facing the insurmountable disparity in size and strength, the students abandoned all else, squeezing out their very last drops of energy to run in another direction.
The girl felt her legs go soft. She tried to stand, but she couldn't muster any strength at all.
Just as she thought she was about to meet her end, a voice reached her ears.
“Sankta lumo...”
“Malligu la juĝon.”
【Tier 3 Magic: Spear of Judgment】
Instantly, several golden magic circles manifested in the sky. The light particles within them condensed, forming golden spears that rained down upon the five magical beasts.
The five beasts did not dodge, instead attacking the golden spears as if in a frenzy. In the next second, the golden spears pierced through their bodies, pinning them firmly to the ground.
“Eh...?”
The girl stood completely frozen, her pupils contracting sharply. This visually striking scene was branded deep into her mind.
Right after, the other students also stopped in their tracks, looking at Ain in disbelief.
“Hello, I am Sevis.”
“You're safe now.”
The girl raised a trembling hand and slowly pointed at Ain.
“Senior... Sevis?”
“Weren't you just inside?”
“Huh?”
Ain was dumbfounded.
...
“Is this all of them?”
Sevis knew very well that there were no classes in the school building at night, so there was no one here besides him.
Looking at the small mountain of magical beasts before him, Sevis leaned against the wall. The fingers tightly gripping his wand suddenly spasmed and loosened. With a heavy thud, he slid down the wall and collapsed onto the floor.
“I am never doing this again...”
Before he could finish, he seemed to sense something and tightly covered his mouth.
Accompanied by a few muffled, painful coughs, dark red blood trickled down between his fingers.
At that exact moment, a dreamlike pink mist suddenly erupted around Sevis. The mist, carrying a strange, sweet fragrance, completely enveloped his figure.
In just a few breaths, the smoke receded like the tide, dispersing into the air.
The dazzling golden hair had vanished without a trace, replaced by long, silky locks cascading down. The once flat, broad chest now revealed the soft curves of a woman.
A face capable of toppling nations was fully exposed to the air. Her skin was as fair and delicate as mutton-fat jade, her features like a painting, breathtakingly beautiful.
Even her faint, pained gasps transformed into a sweet voice resembling a clear spring—ethereal, gentle, and striking straight to the heart.
“The disguise... has ended...”
Recalling the two potions she had drunk during the battle and in the office, a wave of mixed emotions washed over Sevis. She could only sigh softly, shaking her head in resignation.
“It seems I've drunk a bit too much of it this month...”
Suddenly, a charming, wicked female voice echoed down the corridor.
“So, the eldest young master of the Xavier family...”
“...has been a woman all along?”
