“Boss?”
“Heh, quite a unique way to address him.”
Wesley let out a contemptuous chuckle.
“I know you. You are...”
“Stop, stop, stop. First of all, who I am is none of your business.”
Ain interrupted him.
Looking at the dejected, silent Sevis at the desk, Ain felt a surge of nameless rage rush straight to his head, his teeth itching with frustration.
Although he didn't know much about this character in the original game, ever since hearing Rosalind's account, he had already developed a favorable impression of Sevis.
For a character with such a sense of responsibility and kindness, even if this had nothing to do with the main storyline of Act Two, he was naturally willing to lend a helping hand.
Not only were those bastards from the Prosecution Office targeting him at every turn, but now someone else had popped out of nowhere to make trouble?
The majestic, sacred, handsome guy from the original game was actually being brought to tears by someone else right now?
If you get rid of Sevis, you might be happy, but who's going to help me fight the boss of Act Five!
At the thought of this, Ain instantly felt a wave of anger toward these people who were hindering the plot's development.
“First, that guy Erich blocked us at the corridor entrance, and right after he left, another one shows up?”
“I mean, do you people have some kind of shift schedule or something?”
Ain scoffed, thoroughly annoyed.
“One is responsible for cornering Sevis, and another is responsible for cornering his subordinates.”
“Your division of labor is truly clear-cut.”
Rosalind blinked in a daze, seemingly not expecting the person in front of her to be even more sarcastic and passive-aggressive than she was.
Her mouth parted slightly in astonishment, but she quickly reached up with her slender hand to cover it.
This man was someone who held absolute authority within the family, and was even one of the top executives of the Titan Prosecution Office!
Ain actually dared to speak to him like that?
Ain crossed his arms over his chest, his expression cold and imposing.
Although they were hindering the plot, looking at it from another angle, wasn't this situation actually pretty good?
Ain was inwardly rejoicing.
Although he didn't know who this small fry without even a Titan Badge was, he figured the guy was probably in cahoots with Erich's crowd.
Since Sevis was currently down in the dumps, with his mental defenses at their weakest, wouldn't stepping in now to farm some favorability points be a godsend?
If he could win the support of a key character from Act Five, it would absolutely be the ultimate winning chip for advancing the plot!
As for calling him “Boss,” that was also just a deliberate tactic he used to close the distance and cozy up to Sevis.
But Rosalind had absolutely no idea what Ain was scheming.
“Wait, Mr. Ain, he is...”
“I don't care who he is!”
With a sharp gaze, Ain cut off Rosalind, who was trying to stop him.
“Even if the highest-ranking official of the Prosecution Office came today, I'd still curse him out!”
Wesley froze.
He hadn't expected a student to dare clamor so recklessly in front of him.
Sevis was also completely lost.
Why was Ain so angry?
Was it because of him?
At this thought, Sevis pulled a few tissues from his drawer and silently wiped away the tears welling in his eyes.
Seeing him look so aggrieved, the anger in Ain's heart flared even hotter.
Catching Sevis's quiet glance, Ain secretly shot him a reassuring look.
“Don't worry, Boss. If I can't blast this guy to pieces with my words today, then all those years I spent ruling the keyboard in my past life would have been for nothing.”
Wesley coldly scrutinized Ain.
Although the boy had defeated Sevis yesterday and possessed such a pure, white soul, that didn't mean he could behave so insolently in his presence.
The supreme majesty of the Titan Prosecution Office would never allow anyone to trample upon it!
“I hope you reflect on your position and realize who you are talking to.”
A flash of coldness passed through Wesley's eyes.
“My apologies. My name is Shangguan Nanbei. May I ask if your name is Sima Dongxi?”
“???”
Sevis's eyes widened.
Rosalind's did as well.
“Isn't his name Ain? Who on earth is Shangguan Nanbei?”
Although Rosalind didn't understand what Ain was saying at all, she could clearly sense the malice laced within those unfamiliar words.
“Ain, stop talking. He's actually...”
“What is he? One of those fools who only care about power and profit, yet do absolutely nothing productive all day?”
Sevis looked at him in surprise.
For some reason, a trace of warmth bloomed in his heart.
Ain had been wanting to unleash his tongue for a long time.
Whether in the original game or now, he thoroughly disliked the image of the Titan Prosecution Office.
Besides, cursing someone out wasn't against the law, let alone these people who lived off public funds but did nothing for the public.
“A fool?”
Wesley let out a dry, angry laugh.
Although many in the High Council were dissatisfied with him, no one dared to speak up due to his power and status.
Ain was the very first to dare curse him like this.
“Am I wrong? A guy like Erich, who can't interrogate a single useful thing out of someone after a whole day, is actually an Arbiter?”
“I've long heard that the Titan Prosecution Office doesn't keep idle people around, but from what I see, there are quite a lot of useless slackers here.”
Ain met Wesley's gaze, his eyes full of hostility.
“You'd rather let a Tier 4 Mage become a scapegoat just to keep that pack of freeloaders?”
“Anyone who makes a decision like that must have their rectum wired straight to their head—an underdeveloped cerebellum and a completely nonexistent cerebrum.”
“And the same goes for all of you accomplices!”
Wesley was utterly dumbfounded.
This was the first time in his life he had ever heard such vulgar, bizarre insults.
Having said his piece, Ain stole a glance at Sevis, his brows and eyes brimming with unconcealed smugness.
He looked as if he were silently claiming credit: “How was that, Boss? I didn't disappoint you, did I?”
“Cough, cough, cough!”
Confronted by Ain's barrage of verbal gymnastics, Sevis couldn't stop coughing.
At this moment, his heart was a chaotic mess of emotions, and he had no idea how to react.
“Where on earth did this guy learn to talk like that?!”
“Mhm, looks like Boss is completely stunned by my performance.”
Ain was highly satisfied.
Beside him, Rosalind also stared in shock.
“Compared to him, my own petty schemes are completely amateur!”
“How can he say so many bizarre things with such a straight face!”
Rosalind couldn't help but be secretly awed, developing a genuine sense of admiration for Ain.
“Yes! If anyone dares to disrespect Milady in the future, I'll curse them out just like this!”
“Mr. Ain, I've taken thorough notes of everything you just said!”
Rosalind's eyes sparkled with excitement as she waited expectantly for his next words.
A few seconds later, Ain saw Sevis making a subtle hand gesture at him. In an instant, he understood the other's intent.
“Oh, oh! He wants me to double down?”
“I won't disappoint, Boss!”
“No one in this world can out-trash-talk me!”
A smile tugged at the corner of Ain's mouth as he secretly gave a thumbs-up, signaling that he completely understood.
Sevis let out a sigh of relief.
“As long as you understand.”
He picked up the teacup beside him, using the rising steam to hide the emotions in his eyes. Taking a light sip, the tightness in his chest eased slightly.
Watching Ain stand up for him, a strange feeling welled up in Sevis's heart.
The person in front of him had been falsely accused by him just yesterday, yet here he was, defending him.
He had even cast aside any grudges to run around on his behalf, standing firmly by his side.
Recalling his team members who had eagerly submitted transfer applications earlier, desperate to sever ties with him, a wave of unspeakable gratitude and bitterness washed over Sevis.
“Very well. You'd better remember the words you just said! I hope you can remain this arrogant when your punishment is handed down!”
Ain felt a surge of annoyance.
“Punishment? Who the hell do you think you are? Quit fucking posing!”
“It seems I've given you too much face. Some dogs really think they can act like lions.”
Sevis almost spat out his entire mouthful of tea.
“You didn't understand at all, you idiot!”
