Chapter 84 · Volume 1

The End (2)

Faced with such a fierce onslaught, Irene did not choose to dodge.
This was not merely born of self-confidence, but also of a need to vent the fury burning in her heart.
Being cautious did not mean she lacked a temper.
She considered those vassals to be her most precious assets.
They were supposed to generate an endless stream of gold coins for her.
Yet because of the bastard before her, she had lost so many of them...
“Boom!!!”
The spell hit its mark.
A violent explosion erupted, accompanied by flashing mana turbulence that disrupted all the elements in the surrounding space.
Immediately following it was a second wave of attacks, then a third.
Amidst the screeching sounds of metal scraping against metal, Irene's expression gradually turned solemn.
Her opponent's magical attacks were unimaginably fierce.
The damage they inflicted was slightly higher than she had anticipated.
Although they couldn't destroy her armor in the short term, they still left her somewhat bruised.
But that was the extent of it.
In Irene's mind, a plan was gradually taking shape.
Robo seized this fleeting opportunity, using Blink to pull back and widen the distance between them.
As a clever mage, he did not believe that these spells alone would be enough to finish her off.
Sure enough, in the next instant, the turbulent mana was forcefully torn apart.
A massive silhouette gleaming with a metallic sheen charged out.
Her wings erupted with the glow of mana, and ripples of magical energy surged all around her.
She was actually casting spells rapidly on the move!
An unparalleled magical radiance flared at this very moment!
Robo could almost hear the roar of pure magic.
Only now did he finally see clearly what kind of monster he was facing.
First to catch his eye were those massive metal wings, comparable in size to those of a young adult or even an adult dragon.
They gleamed with a chilling sharpness, making one wonder if anyone struck by them would even have an intact corpse left behind.
Then came the spiral, unicorn-like horn of breathtaking beauty, and the dragon-scale-like structure covering her body.
This was the ultimate fusion of violence and beauty!
This...
Was this really one of the two juvenile dragons rumored to be in the Great Gana Forest?
Robo's mind momentarily went blank.
But there was no time for him to think.
He had already been locked onto by those sharp golden eyes.
Countless spells had already taken form, enveloping him within!
Amidst the howling roar of magic, the Archmage quickly pulled out several spell scrolls.
Channeling his mental focus, he cast numerous spells in rapid succession!
“Swoosh, swoosh, swoosh!!!”
“Boom, boom, boom!!!”
Spells clashed, exploded, and shattered.
They seemed to transform into countless brilliant fireworks.
Even the heavy clouds overhead were forcefully torn apart by the impact.
A long-absent ray of sunlight pierced through the newly torn rift, spilling over the battlefield of blood and iron.
It shone down upon the corpses that had already fallen across the battlefield.
Yet at this moment, the blazing sunlight could no longer bring to these already withered lives...
...even a fraction of warmth.
“Boom!”
The battle raged on.
The dark clouds in the sky attempted to mend their wounds, only to be forcefully torn apart again and again.
If the clash between Renn and Daviel was akin to the era of cold weapons,
then the duel between these two mages at this moment...
...had already escalated to the level of the era of firearms.
Fire, acid, and frost exploded continuously!
The little dragon girl repeatedly tried to close the distance, wanting to use her powerful physical body to crush her opponent into dust.
But Robo had clearly seen through Irene's intentions.
He was extremely cautious, constantly using Blink to maintain his distance.
Whenever he didn't have enough time to cast a spell, he would hesitate not to use a precious spell scroll to defend himself or teleport away.
If he were an ordinary mage, he certainly wouldn't have been able to produce so many valuable spell scrolls.
Nor would he have been willing to use them so freely.
Most scrolls were single-use, and some poorer mages would have loved nothing more than to tear a single scroll in half to use it twice.
The immense wealth of the Duchy of Reny, which had monopolized the wine market for many years, was fully on display at this moment.
“Boom!!!”
Irene once again broke through the dense elemental turbulence caused by the magical explosions.
She completely ignored the damage that had begun to accumulate on her armor.
The scale-like structure ensured that even if the armor was damaged, its functionality would not be affected in the slightest.
Thus, her flight trajectory was not altered even a fraction by the aftershocks of the explosions, remaining locked onto the human before her.
At the same time, the scale-like structure made it easy to disassemble.
During her high-speed sprint, several scales on the abdomen of the armor suddenly popped open,
revealing a pair of fair little feet.
“Tsk!”
Robo appeared calm on the surface, but his heart was already shaking with an indescribable shock.
Leaving aside why a dragon—a creature born as a magical being—would choose to study the path of a mage,
this fellow had actually put on a suit of armor.
And it looked like a piece of magical equipment to boot.
Aren't dragons naturally proud of their powerful physical bodies and the Dragon Language Magic granted by their Draconic Inheritance? Aren't they supposed to look down on the knowledge of other races and despise armor and defensive gear forged by them?
Just how afraid of death was this black dragon?
While Robo's mind raced with these thoughts, he maintained a cautious exterior, keeping his eyes locked onto the black dragon before him.
The moment before she could close in, he unleashed another barrage of spells that he had already finished charging.
After unleashing the spells, Robo glanced slightly to the side.
He looked toward the battlefield where the other black dragon and Renn were clashing.
The wyvern, having been struck in its backside, was clearly out of sorts.
Many times when Renn was about to land a hit on Daviel, the blow would miss due to the wyvern's sudden spasms.
This also indirectly resulted in the wyvern sustaining several more wounds.
Even Renn's armor had been corroded with numerous pits and craters by the acid.
Robo narrowed his eyes.
He understood all too well that the opponent before him was trying to stall him.
Once Renn was defeated, he would have to face two black dragons, both of whose combat power exceeded that of a typical adolescent dragon.
Although Robo was confident in his own strength,
that did not make him arrogant or foolish.
If this dragged on any longer, he would inevitably be defeated when forced to face both dragons.
“Cunning creature.”
Robo thought to himself.
He quietly reached toward his storage ring and pulled out a spell scroll.
A look of deep pain and reluctance crossed his face.
At that exact moment, his spells collided with the armored black dragon.
As a torrent of energy and elements erupted wildly, a multi-colored radiance obscured everything.
Seizing this opportunity, Robo unfurled the scroll with a snap.
He murmured under his breath,
“—Legendary Spell Scroll: Starfire.”
This was one of the few treasures passed down by his grandfather, capable of unleashing a Legendary Rank strike.
It had always been sealed away as a trump card of national guardian level.
Using it now naturally caused him immense heartache.
Had the situation not been so dire, Robo would never have used it.
“I hope she leaves behind an intact corpse.”
After activating the scroll, Robo waited for his opponent's demise, his mind filled with mixed emotions.
In his view, given the speed at which she was charging, she would certainly be unable to dodge this strike.
The outcome was already decided.
And at this moment, Irene finally experienced firsthand...
...what it truly meant to be Legendary.
It was no longer a simple increase in energy levels.
That—that was a qualitative change!
An invisible ripple spread outward in all directions.
It was the domain rules unique to the Legendary Rank!
At the same time, an unparalleled, powerful magical fluctuation erupted.
The sheer volume of energy caused the very space around them to warp.
Following closely behind...
...was the suddenly formed Legendary magic!
Boundless flames, intermingled with brilliant light, poured out from the scroll.
Even the air itself was ignited.
This was a devastating onslaught capable of wiping out tens of thousands of people.
The multi-colored radiance from the previous spell explosions was instantly ignited and blown away,
revealing the massive black silhouette within.
At such close proximity, there was no time to dodge.
Carried forward by her own inertia, the armored dragon was swallowed whole by the Starfire.
Immediately after,
a violent explosion erupted.
“Boom!!!”
The roar of the spell echoed through the heavens and the earth.
Space and mana fell into a brief state of chaos.
Even mana perception was completely disrupted.
Robo hastily conjured a shield to block the oncoming light and heat.
But his shield had barely held for a moment before fine, web-like cracks began to spiderweb across its surface.
It was clear that Robo, using this scroll for the first time, had vastly underestimated the sheer power of a Legendary magic scroll.
“Crack!”
With a sharp shattering sound, the shield burst into pieces, and the raging flames rushed directly at his face.
Amidst the chaotic interference of the fire elements, Robo could not even cast spells properly.
He could only allow the powerful shockwave to blast him backward through the air.
Several life-saving items on his body flared with a soft light, barely protecting him from being charred to a crisp by the violent fire elements.
“Tsk, truly powerful,”
Robo thought to himself as he hurtled backward.
Though he was in a pathetic state, he had at least eliminated his target.
Thus, he didn't feel much urgency.
Instead, he felt a sense of relief.
He felt a deep, renewed yearning for the Legendary Rank.
But right at that moment,
the flames in front of him were suddenly swept aside!
A face appeared right before his eyes.
It was Irene in her human form!
“?”
Doubt had barely begun to rise in Robo's mind
when, in the next second, as he recognized the face before him...
...that doubt instantly transformed into absolute terror!
How is this possible?!
She took a Legendary strike head-on and didn't die?!
Robo felt a bone-chilling dread seize his heart.
But this split second of distraction gave Irene the perfect opportunity to close the gap.
Her delicate hands suddenly transformed into razor-sharp dragon claws, clamping onto Robo's neck.
Then, like a pair of falling meteors, they plummeted straight from the sky!
“Boom!!”
Driven by the immense acceleration, they slammed violently into the ground.
Amidst the groaning of shattering earth and stone, those with keen hearing couldn't help but cover their ears.
The ground caved in to form a massive crater, and a jubilant dragon roar echoed from the billowing smoke.
“Got you, bug!”
