“Hmm?”
At the mention of food, Daviel's eyes instantly lit up.
He immediately lowered his voice as well, responding with a highly flattering smile,
“My dear sister, did you secretly hide some of that swamp crocodile meat?”
Irene rolled her eyes.
“Like hell!”
“If I had hidden meat, would I still be starving like this?”
“Then why did you ask if I wanted to eat meat?”
Daviel's voice rose a bit, and his flattering smile instantly vanished.
He flopped back onto the ground, preparing to go back to sleep.
“But I have a way for us to get meat,” Irene added.
Hearing this, Daviel flipped right back up from the ground, his two dragon eyes shining like lightbulbs.
“Now that you mention it, I'm not sleepy at all!”
Irene didn't keep him in suspense and whispered directly into Daviel's ear.
Daviel's expression changed rapidly.
Only after Irene finished did he gather his thoughts and whisper:
“Will this really work?”
Irene nodded with an air of profound confidence.
“Don't worry, it absolutely will. As long as you do what I say, we'll both have meat to eat.”
“But...” Daviel was still a bit hesitant.
“Alright, stop hesitating and go! Last time it was me, now it's your turn!”
Disregarding any objections, Irene pushed Daviel directly toward Mother Dragon.
Daviel looked back at Irene, only to see her holding up the thickest claw of her dragon hand.
In the terminology of humanoid civilizations, that would be called a thumb.
Forget it! In this wide world, eating is the most important thing. I'm going for it!
Thinking this, Daviel marched toward Mother Dragon with the determination of a soldier facing certain death.
Reaching Mother Dragon's side, he did as Irene had instructed and began nuzzling her head, using the cute, spoiled acting techniques Irene had taught him.
“Awoo~ My dearest Mother~ I'm so hungry~ I need foodies~~”
However, Mother Dragon didn't react in the slightest.
Seeing that this trick failed, Daviel resorted to the other method Irene had taught him.
Placing his hands on his hips, he declared in an incredibly solemn and grand tone:
“Mother, in truth, I am the reincarnation of the ancient dragon god, MetalGreymon!”
“Right now, I need a swamp crocodile without acid to restore my power!”
“Once my divine power is restored, I shall crown you as the Supreme Deity!”
This time, Mother Dragon reacted.
She slowly turned around and looked at Daviel as if she were looking at a complete idiot.
Daviel thought his words were working. A smile broke across his face, and he hastily continued:
“I can even crown you as the God of Gods!”
The next moment, however, his joy evaporated.
Mother Dragon, Sylvely, was extremely annoyed by this dim-witted hatchling who was disrupting her sleep.
She scooped Daviel up and, while he was still completely dazed, tossed him right into the treasure pile.
Then, she pinned his head down and gave him a thorough scrubbing against the treasure.
She used so much force that sparks literally flew from the friction.
However, dragon scales were incredibly tough, and Mother Dragon controlled her strength well, not worried at all about injuring her own hatchling.
Watching from a distance, Irene clicked her tongue.
“Spare the rod, spoil the child. Mother Dragon's love for Daviel is truly profound...”
Five minutes later, Daviel was thrown back.
With a loud thud, he crashed onto the ground like a puddle of mud, his head planting straight into the soft dirt.
Pulling his head out of the dirt, he glared at Irene with golden eyes that practically spat fire.
“Irene! If I ever believe another word you say, I'm a dog!”
Unexpectedly, Irene gently placed her claw on Daviel's head and said, as if coaxing a child:
“My dear brother, you've misunderstood me.”
Her face didn't redden in the slightest as she spoke.
Of course, it was also possible that her face was too black for any blush to show.
“Huh?!”
Daviel froze for a moment, then slapped Irene's claw away and said viciously:
“Don't even think about tricking me again. I'm not a brainless idiot like a white dragon!”
“Sigh...”
Irene let out a soft sigh and slowly turned her back to him.
Placing both her dragon claws behind her back, she wore an expression of someone who had weathered many storms, saying with deep, earnest concern:
“My foolish brother, in truth, I did all of this for your own good.”
“A dragon's life is full of perils. I am merely training your anti-fraud awareness.”
“Huh?” Daviel blinked, hesitating for a second.
But then he shook his head furiously.
“I don't believe you! You always bully me. How could you be so kind-hearted?”
After speaking, Daviel wore a smug expression that said, You can't trick me.
“Sigh...”
Irene sighed again.
“Daviel, do you know that in human civilization, there is a common saying: ‘An elder sister is like a mother’?”
Daviel's brain short-circuited for a moment as he desperately searched his Draconic Inheritance to see if such a phrase existed.
Just then, Irene spoke again:
“I don't actually bully you normally. I am tempering your willpower.”
“This tempered, powerful willpower might save you from dire straits in the future!”
“But... but...” Daviel was already wavering.
Delighted in her heart, Irene hastily lowered her voice, doing her best to mimic a sobbing tone:
“You have no idea... every time I strike your body... my own heart aches!”
Having said that, Irene even pretended to wipe away tears.
That display of deep, painful devotion left Daviel utterly stunned.
“Really?”
Daviel was still a bit skeptical.
Irene felt like she was trying to control the recoil of an AK-47 just to keep from grinning.
Fortunately, her back was turned to Daviel, so her foolish little brother couldn't see her face.
“Of course it's true. I'm your sister, would I ever lie to you?”
As she spoke, Irene bit her dragon lip hard to suppress her smile.
Then, she dabbed some saliva with her claw and smeared it on her face, faking tear stains.
Turning around, she suddenly threw her arms around Daviel.
Where had the pure little black dragon ever seen such a performance?
After all, he was just a black dragon baby who had been born only a few days ago. He was completely bamboozled on the spot.
He immediately began comforting his sister, telling her not to cry.
Farther away, Mother Dragon, Sylvely, who was pretending to sleep on her pile of treasure, shook her head helplessly at this sight.
She couldn't help but recall the young white dragon she had forced to mate with her back then.
I'm never looking for a white dragon again. The offspring they sire always have such wildly fluctuating IQs...
...
On the other side.
Seeing that her scheme had succeeded, Irene struck while the iron was hot and brought up her other plan...
“What?! We're going hunting ourselves?!”
Daviel cried out in shock.
“Yes. And I believe Mom will support us.”
As she spoke, Irene glanced at Mother Dragon, who was lying on the treasure pile, seemingly asleep but actually faking it.
“Can we really do it?”
Daviel was a bit lacking in confidence.
That swamp crocodile his mother had caught a couple of days ago was big enough to swallow him whole in a single bite.
“You have to have confidence in yourself, Daviel. Don't forget, we are mighty black dragons!”
“Hmm...” Daviel hesitated for only half a second before agreeing.
“Alright! It's time to let those lowly, weak creatures know the great name of Daviel the black dragon!”
With that, the two hatchlings crawled out of the cave, one after the other.
