As the blinding light in Aila’s hands gradually faded from the wall, Midir’s vision slowly returned. When he finally saw the scene before him, he froze in shock.
The black crystal on the forehead of Azura, whom he had pinned down, had been shattered into fragments. With the crystal gone, the man stopped struggling and lay on the ground as if dead.
However, the dagger in Aila’s hand had also shattered after exhausting its power, its blade having only shallowly pierced his forehead.
Aila stood before Midir, still holding her landing posture from a moment ago, but her chest had been pierced through from behind by a longsword radiating a black aura.
The sharp tip of the blade was only a dozen centimeters from Midir’s own body. Bright red droplets of blood slowly dripped from the black edge, and the splattered blood stained the elemental armor on Midir’s chest red, looking like blooming roses.
“Midir... what... is this?!” Aila’s eyes were filled with confusion and shock, as if she couldn't accept this sudden turn of events.
When she slowly lowered her head to look at the blade protruding from her chest, she felt as if all her strength had been drained in that instant. Even opening her mouth to speak became a difficult task.
Before she could finish her sentence, an alluring figure in a black gown appeared behind her. The woman leaned over, looking at the two people still kneeling on the ground with her crimson eyes, a satisfied smile playing on her lips.
“Void! Demon! I will kill you!”
Midir’s roar exploded across the wall like a clap of thunder. At this moment, a surge of grief and indignation he had never felt before erupted in his heart. He tore himself free from the now-limp Azure Moon Ribbon and prepared to charge at the woman.
However, the Void Demon only gave a contemptuous smile, as if she had already seen through Midir’s intentions. With a casual wave of her hand, the black longsword lodged in Aila’s chest transformed into a streak of light, spinning as it flew back to her back and turning into a pitch-black wing.
As the blade was pulled out, a large amount of blood instantly gushed from the wound in Aila’s chest, staining everything around them in a jarring red.
Without the slightest hesitation, the Void Demon raised a foot and kicked Aila’s limp body away, sending her flying in a crimson arc through the air.
Seeing the woman’s action, Midir immediately shifted his stance and caught Aila’s body in mid-air with incredible speed.
He held her tightly, his hands trembling as he condensed light element, attempting to use the pure power to suppress the blood constantly pouring from the wounds on her chest and back. But even so, the blood continued to flow like a bursting dam.
Knowing nothing of healing magic, all his actions at this moment were futile. A large amount of blood soaked his hands as he held Aila, and her face became as pale as a sheet of paper.
In his arms, Aila slightly opened her dull blue eyes and used every ounce of her strength to whisper to him, “Watch out... below!”
In his frantic state, Midir didn't even sense his surroundings. Relying purely on his unconditional trust in Aila, he subconsciously condensed a thick shield around them.
The moment he finished the shield, the wall beneath his feet shattered as if struck by a giant hammer. A massive black figure, like a behemoth crawling out of hell, burst through the thick fortress wall and charged straight at them.
The hastily deployed light element shield appeared fragile before such a massive impact, shattering into countless points of light like glass. Midir had no time to hesitate; he violently twisted his body, using his own back to take the lethal blow.
The immense impact made Midir feel as if he had been hit by a giant mallet. His internal organs felt displaced, and his vision went dark, nearly losing consciousness.
But with his incredible willpower, he forced himself to steady his form, ensuring Aila wasn't harmed. He coughed violently in mid-air, a mouthful of blood spraying out and staining his clothes.
This sudden, violent collision sent Midir and Aila hurtling away like kites with severed strings, eventually crashing heavily into the city districts hundreds of meters away.
Several buildings collapsed under the force of their impact. For a moment, dust and debris flew everywhere, blotting out the sun.
On the wall, the woman in the black gown laughed wantonly after seeing the rolling dust clouds where the two had fallen.
“Hahaha~ To think I could kill two birds with one stone! I was planning to deal with you slowly after finishing off that troublesome little girl, but you went and ran right into the line of fire! Haha~ Hahahaha! Now, both threats are gone!”
As her eerie, mad laughter spread across the wall, the soldiers still fighting felt as if they were being strangled by the neck, unable to make even a sound.
Beside her, the massive figure that had sent Midir and Aila flying slowly landed. Its form was so grotesque it made one’s skin crawl.
The monster’s head possessed a sinister beauty similar to the woman in the black gown, but its body was a deformed monstrosity stitched together from several types of twisted creatures.
Its upper body was incredibly thick and covered in hard black scales. One hand was a sharp scythe-claw that shimmered with a cold light, while the other was abnormally large, nearly reaching the ground as if it could easily crush anything.
Its thick legs were bent like those of a locust and covered in spikes, each step seeming to tear the earth. Behind it, a pair of long, narrow transparent wings quivered slightly, adding a touch of mystery and horror to its appearance.
With a casual wave of the black-robed woman’s hand, the four-meter-tall, twisted monster lunged like a puppet on invisible strings toward the garrison soldiers whose faces were contorted with terror.
On the other side of the wall, Blake and a soot-stained Rosal had just met up and were about to discuss their next move when that soul-shaking roar instantly drew all their attention.
An unprecedented sense of anxiety and unease surged in their hearts, especially when they saw Midir holding the wounded Aila being ruthlessly knocked away by that behemoth.
Rosal didn't hesitate to leap down from the wall, but she was instantly surrounded by swarming Void Demons, unable to move. Meanwhile, the deformed monstrosity now moved as if in an uninhabited land, wantonly trampling through the garrison’s defensive lines.
Ordinary soldiers were tiny and powerless before this monster. A single swing of its scythe-claw could easily tear through heavy iron armor, harvesting lives like grass.
Even those Captains with the strength of a High-level Swordsman could only barely withstand its assault by working together. The moment they showed a opening, they would be easily sent flying by its giant arm, falling heavily wounded.
It swung its scythe-claw with its left hand, harvesting the lives of soldiers at will. The standard iron armor was sliced open like tofu under the sharp claws. Meanwhile, the attacks of ordinary soldiers only left shallow white marks on its body, failing to even break the skin.
At that moment, several Captains who were High-level Swordsmen launched a combined attack. Only by pooling the strength of three men could they barely parry the monster’s scythe-claw. Others took advantage of the opening to rush forward, aiming for its vitals.
However, the monster simply swung its giant arm upward, scattering the combined attack of several men and, without a pause, sending them all flying.
Every person hit by the monster’s giant hand had their bones shattered and spat out blood. Even if they didn't die instantly, they were left with only a single breath of life.
After witnessing the massive disparity between humans and the monster, Blake decisively issued an order, shouting at the top of his lungs.
“Second and Third Artillery Squads, immediately adjust the magic crystal cannon muzzles! Aim at that monster! Suppress it with cannon fire!”
Hearing the command, the soldiers acted swiftly. They ignored everything else to raise the barrels that were originally aimed downward, repositioning them and pointing the dark muzzles at the deformed monstrosity rampaging through the crowd.
At the commander’s signal, over a dozen magic crystal cannons let out a deafening roar simultaneously. Red-hot shells streaked across the sky like a meteor shower, flying straight toward the monster.
However, the monster displayed incredible speed and agility, skillfully dodging most of the cannon fire.
Even the armor-piercing shells that hit the target only left marks a few inches deep on its deformed arm before being firmly blocked by its steel-like muscles.
These shells, which were powerful enough to pierce the hard carapaces of the giant insects below the wall, now appeared utterly powerless.
This failed strike only provoked the monster’s ferocity. It let out a deafening roar, completely abandoning the terrified soldiers before it and turning its sights toward the magic crystal cannons that threatened it.
With a powerful thrust of its locust-like legs, its body shot into the air like an arrow from a bow, the dozens of meters of height seemingly nothing to it. When it landed again, the entire battlefield seemed to be enveloped by an invisible force.
With a deafening crash, one magic crystal cannon was instantly turned into scrap metal under its immense strength, the barrel twisted and fragments flying.
Worse still, the impact affected the surrounding battlements. The wall collapsed under the force, forming a pile of ruins. The artillerymen who couldn't dodge in time fell from the dozens-of-meters-high wall along with the wreckage of the magic crystal cannons, their fates unknown.
This scene struck terror into the hearts of everyone present. The power and ferocity of this deformed monstrosity had far exceeded their imagination.
