At first glance, the book looked quite old. It certainly wasn't made from the precious materials used in magic books; the pages had yellowed with age, and even the binding method was vastly different from the other books he had browsed.
Starlight instinctively took it from her, finding that the book didn't just look unique—the texture of the paper beneath his fingers felt different as well.
While the title on the cover was written in the Common Tongue of the Leon Continent, everything changed the moment he flipped to the first page.
The square characters of various shapes and forms instantly reminded Starlight of the script he had seen in Carlos’s secret room.
Although he had only caught a brief glimpse of it back then, he was absolutely certain that his master’s manuscripts and the records in this book were written in the exact same language.
Could the information in this book be related to his master’s research? Starlight’s heart skipped a beat, and he turned to ask urgently.
“Moen, where did you find this?”
Moen was somewhat surprised by his intense reaction. She pointed toward a corner of the distant bookshelves.
“It was on the second-to-last shelf in that row. It was the only book written in this script. I brought it back out of curiosity, but after flipping through a few pages, I found it very difficult to understand.”
“At a glance, the characters look a bit like Dragon Tongue, but judging by the title and the illustrations inside, it clearly talks about human affairs. But on the Leon Continent... isn't there only one human kingdom?” Moen continued. “Also, whenever I try to decipher these words, they become a jumbled mess in my mind, making me feel dizzy. I can't piece together a single complete sentence.”
“Dizzy? I don't feel that at all. Moen, are you feeling unwell? Do you need to go back and rest?”
Starlight’s expression became subtle as he listened to her description. Although he wasn't yet sure exactly what was recorded in the book, he definitely didn't share her experience. In fact, he was confident that he could decipher the content given enough time.
Hearing Starlight’s answer, Moen knit her beautiful brows and fell into deep thought before slowly speaking.
“You don't feel it, Starlight? Let me think... that sensation... Right! Could this be a bloodline seal?”
“What’s a bloodline seal? Weren't we talking about the script? How did we get onto bloodlines?”
Starlight tilted his head and blinked, looking at Moen with a face full of confusion, clearly puzzled by her suggestion.
Moen continued to explain in a composed manner.
“You should have heard of the magic used by the Dragon Race, right? The magic they use is completely different from the system we know because it uses Dragon Tongue as the medium for casting.”
“Compared to modern magic systems, Dragon Tongue magic possesses several unique advantages. However, it is nearly impossible for any race other than dragons to learn it. That is because of the bloodline shackle passed down since the primordial era.”
“To prevent other races from stealing their spells, the ancient dragons used a method we still don't understand to seal Dragon Tongue within the dragon bloodline, making it nearly impossible for future generations to decipher their language.”
“The characters in this book give me a feeling similar to when I hear Dragon Tongue, even though the characters themselves clearly aren't written in that language.”
As Moen spoke, she lightly traced her slender finger across the page. Sure enough, when she tried to decipher the second sentence, that dizzy sensation struck again, forcing her to stop reading.
Seeing the discomfort on her face, Starlight immediately looked down at the book on the table, but no matter how hard he looked, he couldn't sense the strangeness Moen described.
After a short break, Moen rubbed her aching temples with a slight frown and sighed.
“It looks like I’ll have to ask if I can borrow it and take it to my sister. If it really is a bloodline seal, there’s nothing I can do.”
Only then did Starlight learn that even with a sealed power like Dragon Tongue, exceptions occasionally occurred, and Xia Duo happened to be one of those very rare individuals.
They were capable of ignoring a portion of the dragon bloodline seal to decipher information, which is why they were known as ‘Dragon Speakers.’
However, the appearance of a Dragon Speaker was entirely random, and since most people never encountered dragon script, many went through life never knowing they possessed the talent.
It would be for the best if Xia Duo could read it, but Starlight truly didn't feel anything unusual. Why was Moen’s reaction so strong?
Carrying these doubts, the two decided to head to the counter to handle the checkout procedures so they could take the book back for Xia Duo to study.
Starlight also took a moment to ask Noah in his mind, but the answer he received was that Noah had only seen the script a few times before being locked in a chest by Carlos, so he had no records of it at all.
But just as they stood up, they were blocked by several students approaching them.
“I wonder how I should address this beautiful lady? Are you interested in attending our party?”
The leader, a thin male student, stared directly at Moen’s stunning figure with predatory eyes, seemingly ignoring Starlight entirely.
Moen had not yet fully recovered from her discomfort, and her mind was still occupied by her curiosity regarding the book. Naturally, she felt impatient with these nonsensical demands, simply shaking her head at them and preparing to walk around them.
Unexpectedly, the newcomers had no intention of stepping aside. The leader shifted to block Moen’s path again, a hint of playfulness in his eyes.
“I have no interest in parties or anything of the sort. Please move aside.”
“But we are very interested in you, miss. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity~ Oh, right, you might not know, but I am...”
“I don't think I need to know that. Starlight, let’s go.”
Realizing the other party was becoming a nuisance, Moen’s expression turned cold. After a clear rejection, she took Starlight’s hand, intending to leave the troublesome spot from another direction.
Seeing that Moen had no intention of paying him any mind, the boy’s face finally flushed with shame and anger. Having held a high status since childhood, when had he ever been treated with such coldness?
“You...! You insolent fools! Stop right there! Do you have any idea who I am?!”
As he spoke, he stepped forward, reaching out to grab Moen. But before his hand could travel even half a meter, it was suddenly encased in a layer of frost.
By then, Starlight had already turned around silently, looking at him with a gaze as cold as ice. As his vision shifted, the frost on the boy’s hand began to spread across his body at an incredible speed.
