As the massive green web lunged forward, an ordinary person would have found it impossible to dodge.
However, the black dragon known as Desdoraka was not about to let her have her way so easily. With a sudden surge, its horns erupted with a blinding grey light. Like a sharp blade, it effortlessly tore through Moen's web of nature energy. Instead of being hindered, the dragon used the momentum to pull its massive body further out of the rift.
“How can this be? What is Little Gold doing? Could it be...”
Seeing her sister's attack fail, Xia Duo gritted her teeth and drew Dragon's End. Three red arrows of battle qi shot from the string, aimed at the black dragon's eyes and heart.
Desdoraka's massive head showed surprising agility. With a slight tilt, the two arrows aimed at its eyes missed their mark. However, because its lower body was still caught in the rift, the arrow targeting its heart became an unavoidable threat.
This was precisely the killing blow Xia Duo had carefully planned. The arrow spiraled through the air, and even though the black dragon twisted its body desperately, it couldn't completely avoid the strike.
Finally, the arrow pierced through the black dragon's thick scales with precision. A brilliant crimson flame erupted on its chest, like a vivid red rose blooming in death, staining Desdoraka's chest blood-red.
In the embers of the flame, a bucket-sized wound appeared on Desdoraka's chest. Beneath the pitch-black scales, thick, lava-like blood dripped down. The moment it touched the ground, it corroded the sturdy floor tiles, leaving behind charred marks.
Although this minor injury was insignificant compared to the dragon's massive frame, it seemed to provoke it, fueling a deeper rage. Suddenly, a breath of dragon breath as black as night erupted, aimed straight at the three of them.
Moen reacted quickly. She raised her staff high, tracing a complex totem above her head. Green light instantly converged to form an indestructible shield, tightly enveloping the three of them.
The black dragon breath was like a reaper's scythe; everything it touched became brittle, and even the surrounding buildings began to weather away. However, upon contact with the shield, it only produced a sizzling sound and failed to pierce through.
“It really is different from a hundred years ago. The aura coming from its wound seems mixed with something familiar... it's a bit like that disgusting smell emitted by Flame Demons.”
Xia Duo furrowed her brow, her gaze piercing through the gaps in the shield as she stared at the wound on the black dragon's chest, her voice filled with doubt.
By now, Desdoraka had completely freed itself from the rift. Its massive body stood tall against the sky, and its crimson eyes locked onto the three people in the air, releasing a wave-like surge of killing intent.
“I was wondering why there was a familiar stench in the air. I don't know why this fellow is involved with Flame Demons, but since it's here, it's been a long time since we've had to show some real skill. Let's go! Little Shadow, Little Crescent!”
With that, Po Kong was enveloped in a dazzling golden light. Like a brilliant meteor streaking across the sky, he resolutely charged out of the shield's protection and toward the massive black dragon.
Meanwhile, the entire Leon Continent fell into a state of chaos and panic. Above several major cities, countless dragons, like beasts out of control, madly lunged at human settlements. War and wails intertwined into a scene of the apocalypse.
...
The scene shifted back to Emerald City, where Midir and Aila had also stepped into the center of the vortex of battle against the Dragon Race.
After the two rushed into Emerald City, Midir immediately noticed the effect of the light screen emanating from the Great Cathedral. Within its range, all magic except for the Light and Dark elements was heavily suppressed. Even the fires caused by the initial rain of fire were extinguished in a short time.
However, the identity badges they wore played an unexpected role at that moment. They flickered slightly, and a surge of energy skillfully resisted the barrier's suppression of magic.
“This barrier... is impressive! It can actually distinguish between friend and foe through these badges. I wonder who invented it.” Midir marveled at the ingenious design of the technology as he ran, testing various elements of magic in his palm and finding no issues.
The first to fall into the city were the hybrid dragons and sub-dragons. Although they were far inferior in size and power to their noble pureblood kin, there were over a thousand of them. Combined with the suddenness of the event, Emerald City was instantly transformed into a living hell.
Even though these sub-dragons were currently unable to use mana, their massive bodies caused immense destruction to the city. Countless civilians who had no time to seek shelter fled in all directions. The streets, which had been peaceful just minutes ago, were now filled with wails and the sound of crashing buildings.
The Church Army of the Holy Church of Light responded quickly. They were well-trained and gathered into many phalanxes to meet the incoming enemies.
However, faced with the wild assault of the Dragon Race, even well-trained soldiers seemed somewhat overwhelmed.
Most of the soldiers were only at the level of low-to-mid-tier swordsmen. They often required dozens or even hundreds of people working in coordination to barely restrain a single sub-dragon's movements. As for defeating one, it was even more difficult.
In one corner of the battlefield, a small squad of the Church Army was struggling to guide a panicked crowd to evacuate when their path was abruptly cut off.
A pale green sub-dragon crashed through a nearby building like a small mountain, landing heavily on the street. Before anyone could react, its massive shadow loomed over them, and fear and despair spread through the air.
In just a single encounter, the unprepared squad lost several members. Under the impact of the sub-dragon's massive body, the armor and weapons of the ordinary soldiers were as fragile as paper. There was almost no chance of survival for anyone hit directly.
Just as the remaining members of the squad prepared for a desperate last stand against the pale green beast, two figures charged out from behind them. A white-haired man swung his gem-like longsword, and a surge of frost erupted from beneath the sub-dragon's feet, instantly freezing its limbs in place.
Simultaneously, a fiery-red figure followed closely behind, turning into a streak of blazing light that charged straight at the frozen sub-dragon.
The long blade in her hand shimmered with brilliant light as it pierced accurately into the sub-dragon's eye. Blood splattered like a fountain, staining half the sky red.
The sub-dragon let out a piercing wail, struggling to break free from its restraints, but the fiery-red figure gave it no chance.
Her movements were agile as she quickly retreated a few steps. Taking advantage of the opening created by the sub-dragon's agonizing pain, she decisively swung several sharp blade glows, striking its throat, heart, and lower abdomen.
Before launching her attack, Aila had asked Midir to enchant her blade with various types of mana to deal with sub-dragons that might have different resistances.
This meticulous preparation made every one of her strikes incredibly lethal. In an instant, several shocking deep gashes were left on the sub-dragon's body, each strike aimed at a vital point with no room for error.
Midir coordinated with her in perfect sync. Intense ice elements, like chains of the reaper, quickly spread across the creature, tightly binding the wounded sub-dragon within a crystal-clear pillar of ice, leaving it unable to move.
Immediately after, the brilliant blade of Starflame sliced through the air, accurately piercing the sub-dragon's heart and ending its life.
The entire process was seamless. In just a few breaths, a fierce sub-dragon had been reduced to several frozen chunks of flesh by the pair's joint effort, completely losing its threat.
Before the few surviving members of the Church Army could express their gratitude, the two rushed off to the next location. Emerald City was in complete chaos, and they could only do their best to help everyone they encountered.
In the following minutes, Aila and Midir were like two bolts of lightning, darting through the streets and alleys of Emerald City. Wherever they went, sub-dragons fell, and the wails and chaos were gradually calmed. Their seamless cooperation and formidable strength greatly relieved the pressure on the Church Army in this area.
