Chapter 95 · Volume 1

Battered and Allied

Xiao Qi braved the machine gun fire, staring at the three charging monsters.
Raising his left hand, a ball of golden fire appeared. He wore a cold expression. “My luck is bad? I think your luck is the one that's bad!”
As he spoke, a large glob of sulfuric acid flew at him first. Behind the acid, the stick-insect monster extended the antennae from its forehead, sweeping them toward him.
“Ha!” Xiao Qi bent forward and fiercely swung his left hand just as the sulfuric acid drew near.
Boom!
The golden flames exploded and rapidly expanded, swallowing both Xiao Qi and the approaching stick-insect monster.
Rumble!
The flames were still expanding. Bai Yuwen stood up, staring at the fire that covered a dozen meters, and muttered, ‘With this kind of power, will he win?’
He watched the long-haired young man calmly walk into the flames. The pressure the man exerted was similar to that of the conjoined bull-bodied monster that had appeared in the subway.
Bang!
After the long-haired young man walked in, the golden flames expanded once more, swallowing nearly half the street.
Blinding golden light burst out from within, forcing the surrounding soldiers to instinctively raise their hands to shield their eyes.
Bai Yuwen did the same. Amidst the golden light, a battered figure rushed out.
Looking closely, he saw Xiao Qi running out, his clothes completely blasted to shreds, leaving him with only half a pair of boxers.
The cold look on Xiao Qi's face was entirely gone. He clutched his shredded boxers with one hand to keep them from falling down while frantically looking back, running toward Bai Yuwen. “Stop fucking staring and let's get the hell out of here! That long-haired guy is terrifyingly strong!”
As he spoke, the hand wearing the golden dragon-head ring kept waving, unleashing streak after streak of golden fire.
Before the surrounding soldiers could even react, they were struck by the golden flames and set ablaze.
“Ahhh!” One soldier was hit by the golden fire, and the flames instantly spread across his entire body. He shrieked in agony, thrashing on the ground.
Screams echoed everywhere. Xiao Qi no longer cared whether these people were controlled like Bai Yuwen or not.
If these bastards wanted to kill him, he would kill them first.
Seeing Xiao Qi in such a state, Bai Yuwen couldn't help but say, “With the way you looked just now, I thought those three guys were just delivering themselves to their deaths.”
Xiao Qi looked at the dazed Bai Yuwen, then glanced back. Through the golden flames, a long-haired silhouette emerged.
He immediately flew into a rage. “Fuck! Every time I run into you, you piece of shit, nothing goes right!”
Letting go of his boxers, he grabbed Bai Yuwen. With his other hand—the one wearing the golden dragon-head ring—he flicked his wrist at the approaching long-haired young man.
Buzz!
A ball of golden fire shot out, striking the long-haired young man square in the face.
Bang!
The fire exploded, swallowing him.
Seizing this window, Xiao Qi covered four to five meters in a single stride, vanishing from the street in the blink of an eye.
On the next street.
Several pedestrians heard the explosion and instinctively turned to look.
Instead, they saw a completely naked man dashing past, his junk swinging wildly.
“Ah! Pervert!!!” a young girl shrieked at the sight.
Hearing the commotion, even more people turned their heads.
Xiao Qi's expression turned incredibly awkward as he looked at the crowd on the street.
With a sudden leap, he jumped several meters into the air, landing on a protruding billboard.
Thud! Thud! Thud!
The muscles in his legs bulged as he leaped from one protrusion along the street to another, sprinting at high speed.
Everyone below stared up at the “naked bird” soaring through the air. Some of the younger women blushed, while the older ladies watched with great interest.
Within seconds, Xiao Qi had vanished from the street.
“What kind of physical condition is that? How can he run so fast!” an old man muttered, looking as if he had seen a ghost.
Beside him, a young man had pulled out his phone at some point, looking thrilled. “This has to be one of the supernatural experts who came to Yangcheng to fight for the Lord of Evil's items! I can't believe I'm seeing one with my own eyes!”
If he posted this on the Qiandu Forum, it would definitely go viral.
Before long, a flood of posts began to appear on the Qiandu Forum.
【Mysterious Supernatural Naked Man Appears! Maybe You're Not Supernatural Because You're Not Naked Enough!】
【Gunfire Blasts, Naked Man Appears! A New Supernatural Being Enters the Battle for the Lord of Evil's Items!】
The events in Yangcheng were captured on camera by many. Aside from Tang Yongyun and a few others who remained hidden from public view,
most supernatural entities were cataloged on the forum, serving as a headcount of the supernatural beings present in Yangcheng.
Meanwhile, Xiao Qi ran for what felt like forever. It wasn't until his stamina was almost depleted that he finally stopped in a narrow alley.
“Hah... hah... I'm exhausted. Luckily, that guy didn't keep chasing us,” Xiao Qi gasped, panting heavily.
Beside him, Bai Yuwen was pale. He was no longer supernatural, and being dragged along at such a jarring, high-speed pace had nearly made him throw up.
“Couldn't you have used that dancing move? With its power, you might have been able to take them out,” Bai Yuwen said, looking at Xiao Qi as he peeled off his own shirt and threw it over.
“Put this on. You're a bit too PG-13 right now,” Bai Yuwen added.
Xiao Qi casually wrapped the shirt around his waist, leaving half of his buttocks exposed, reflecting a faint sheen in the sunlight.
He stared at Bai Yuwen, then suddenly threw a punch.
Thud!
The sudden punch doubled Bai Yuwen over, his eyes widening in shock. “What the hell was that for?!”
“Is your sister really in their hands?” Xiao Qi asked, looking at him with a calm expression.
Although the crow had already told him, he wanted to hear it directly from the man himself.
Bai Yuwen fell silent for a moment before replying, “My sister really was captured by them. I... I had no other choice.”
Looking up at Xiao Qi, he continued, “You've saved me again. You should leave. I don't have any power anymore. Staying with you will only drag you down.”
“And what do you plan to do? Go back alone? Those monsters will kill you,” Xiao Qi said, narrowing his eyes.
Bai Yuwen gave a bitter laugh. “I don't have a choice. My sister is here. Even if I have to throw my life away, I'm going to make them pay.”
He still had some explosives hidden away. Once he got back, he would strap them to his chest and hunt those bastards down.
Rather than letting Bai Xiaohua be tortured to death by those monsters, he would rather blow them both to kingdom come.
Hearing this, Xiao Qi didn't reply. Instead, he looked up at the sky, where a crow was circling.
He suddenly smiled. “We're not completely out of options. Hey, didn't you want me to work with you? While I won't agree to that, we can certainly team up to slaughter those disgusting bastards.”
Following Xiao Qi's gaze, Bai Yuwen saw a crow swoop down and land on Xiao Qi's head.
Its pitch-black eyes stared at Bai Yuwen. The thread of doom on him had already snapped.
If it didn't intervene, this guy wouldn't survive the day.
The crow said in a flat tone, “Very well.”
“Then first, how about we rescue this guy's sister? He's owned two supernatural items before, so he's experienced. Let's have him join us,” Xiao Qi suggested, pointing at Bai Yuwen.
“A regular person, no matter how experienced, will only drag us down.”
“If you truly want to save his sister, fine. Sell your ring to me. Money is no object.” The crow tilted its head down, staring at Xiao Qi with one dark eye.
It had already investigated his identity. Just a few days ago, he was still a corporate slave working in a neighboring city, with a savings of 303.26 yuan and a few lifelike dolls saved in his shopping cart.
Bai Yuwen's expression shifted as he looked at the creature that had once driven him to his wits' end. He suddenly fell to his knees and slammed his forehead against the ground.
“Please save my sister! I'll give you anything you want, even my life!” Bai Yuwen cried out.
Xiao Qi chimed in, “If you rescue his sister the day after tomorrow, I'll sell you the ring. Any price is fine.”
The crow stared at Bai Yuwen, its expression calm. “Do you know why I had Xiao Qi save you? Because your willingness to throw everything away for your family reminds me of my past self.”
On top of that, even under duress, he had used his wits to try and buy time for Xiao Qi.
Although the kid had plenty of flaws, the crow didn't mind.
With a gentle wave of one wing, a plume of black mist materialized before Bai Yuwen, condensing into a sheet of paper about a dozen centimeters wide.
“Touch it. Sell your life to me, and I shall grant you the power to save your family!” the crow declared solemnly.
This was an ability it had recently developed.
Doom Contract: Once the target willingly agrees to the contract, their doom will be under your control! (From the moment the contract is signed, the doom carried by the target will gradually become yours.)
This ability allowed it to gather doom, which was extremely vital to it. If it accumulated enough, it could even trigger an evolution or mutation.
As for whether the contracted party's doom would be completely drained—that was utterly impossible. Doom replenished itself naturally, and losing a small amount of it wouldn't suddenly make them lucky.
Hearing the crow's words, Bai Yuwen looked up at the black contract before him. Without a moment's hesitation, he placed his hand upon it.
In the crow's eyes, a thin thread of doom split off from the top of Bai Yuwen's head and connected to the crow.
“From this moment on, your life is no longer your own,” the crow said, opening its beak wide.
It spat out a crimson crystal, which fell to the ground.
“Eat it,” the crow commanded.
Without hesitation, Bai Yuwen picked up the crystal and swallowed it. A searing heat surged from his stomach.
He felt a colossal power erupting from within. His body began to shoot up, his muscles swelling until he stood at a towering 2.2 meters.
“This is...!” Feeling the surge of power, Bai Yuwen was utterly shocked.
This was different from the power granted by the Lord of Evil. Using that power felt like holding a weapon in his hand, but this power made his hands the weapons themselves.
‘Butcher!’
The information materialized in his mind. This intrinsic source of power fascinated him.
With a thought, the surrounding space suddenly cracked open. A rusted long blade, two meters long and half a meter wide, emerged. Beside it lay a set of chains, both weapons bearing white markings.
“The long blade and chains were stored back at my laboratory. To think you could summon them from such a distance,” the crow remarked, looking at him.
