This was the end of the street, partitioned off by a five-meter-high iron fence.
Behind the gate stood ten soldiers in black service uniforms on guard duty.
Liu Wen walked straight toward the iron fence. Seeing this, the sentries prepared to act.
Just as one of them was about to speak, Liu Wen's sunglasses flashed red once more.
The soldiers' minds instantly went into a daze. One of them even stepped forward to open the gate, letting the two of them pass through without issue.
A few passersby not far away watched this scene in astonishment.
“Who would've thought such a big shot was walking right beside me!” a plump man muttered, watching their retreating figures with envy.
Once past the gate, Liu Wen was greeted by a hundred-meter-wide road. Directly across from it stood the white palace.
Liu Wen looked at the soldier with the highest rank. “Where is your highest-ranking officer? Take me to him.”
The soldier's expression was blank as he replied, “Our commanding officer is inside the palace. I will take you to him now.”
With that, the soldier turned and led the way.
Along the way, whenever other soldiers noticed them, Liu Wen's sunglasses would flash red, and those soldiers would immediately resume their guard duty with blank stares.
Although the soldiers guarding the exterior were mind-controlled, the security cameras lining the streets were still fully operational.
In a room inside the palace, which served as the security monitoring room,
seven soldiers sat inside, watching the walls lined with surveillance screens.
The soldier responsible for monitoring the iron gate stared in confusion at the incoming pair of Liu Wen and Liu Zhian. “Which big shots are these two? I've never seen them before.”
Behind them sat a Major on duty.
Hearing this, he stood up. “What big shots? The councilmen have already gone back. Let me see.”
He walked over to stand behind the soldier, frowning deeply as he stared at the screen showing Liu Wen and his companion being escorted in.
“Battalion Commander, do you recognize them?” the soldier asked curiously.
The Battalion Commander stared intently at Liu Zhian's face on the monitor. “I feel like I've seen this guy somewhere before. Run a nationwide facial recognition scan.”
“Yes, sir!” The soldier immediately began operating the system.
In less than a second, a wanted poster popped up on the screen.
Class-S Financial Fugitive: Liu Zhian
“Battalion Commander, this is...” The soldier's expression turned bizarre as he stared at the wanted poster.
The Battalion Commander wore a similar expression, but his quickly morphed into sheer terror.
Anyone who could secure an officer post here had some kind of backing.
He naturally knew about the incidents in Ningcheng, especially the Liu family, who had been at the center of it all.
“Sound the alarm!!!” Suppressing his rising panic, the Battalion Commander roared.
This was the Capital. If these people were allowed to waltz right in, it would be an absolute catastrophe for the top elites of the Nanming Kingdom.
Even as he roared, the figure of the sunglasses-wearing man in the Zhongshan suit suddenly vanished from the monitor.
“Young man, why so tense? We are merely here to 'pay a visit' to the honorable councilmen.” A calm voice suddenly sounded from right behind the Battalion Commander.
Hearing this voice and seeing the man who had vanished from the screen, the Battalion Commander's face contorted in sheer horror as he shrieked, “Sound the alarm!!!”
Yet the soldier before him sat frozen, completely unresponsive to his frantic shouting.
Seeing this, he opened his mouth to scream again, but a flash of red light pierced straight through his brain.
The Battalion Commander's eyes instantly went dull.
“Keep watching over this place.” Having dealt with the man, Liu Wen's figure vanished once more, reappearing back on the camera feeds outside.
If he hadn't been worried that slaughtering these soldiers would cause the councilmen to go into hiding, he would have slaughtered everyone in the palace long ago.
Reappearing outside, Liu Wen and Liu Zhian followed their guide deep into the palace.
Any soldier who attempted to approach them for questioning along the way was instantly controlled by Liu Wen.
Before long, the two of them arrived in front of an office.
Liu Zhian pushed open the wooden door. Inside, a middle-aged man was fast asleep on a black office sofa.
“Elder, I know this guy. He's the Deputy Director of the Parliament General Office. He used to show up on TV a lot,” Liu Zhian said as he walked over to the middle-aged man, grabbing him by the collar and hoisting him up.
“Who are you...” Jolted awake by the sudden grab, the middle-aged man stared at the two intruders in complete bewilderment.
Liu Wen had no intention of wasting breath. The moment he looked at the man, his eyes flashed red.
The man quieted down instantly, his expression turning blank.
“Where do the councilmen live? Tell me everything you know,” Liu Wen demanded, staring at him.
As the Deputy Director of the Parliament General Office, he was a high-ranking official to the public. But to put it bluntly,
he was merely a glorified servant tasked with catering to the councilmen's every whim. A person like him would undoubtedly know their residential addresses.
The middle-aged man spoke in a monotone voice, “Councilman Feng Chang's residence is at...”
In one breath, he rattled off the addresses of all five councilmen.
Once he was finished, Liu Wen turned and walked away. “Zhian, let's split up. We need to deal with them tonight. Your father is severely injured back in Yangcheng, and we need to head back as soon as possible.”
“Got it. Leave Feng Chang and Li Feilin to me. My methods can get a bit loud, Elder, so we'd better make this quick,” Liu Zhian nodded.
The two councilmen he chose lived in the same direction, making it a convenient route.
With that, Liu Zhian strode out.
Liu Wen's figure vanished as he set off toward the remaining three residences.
Three kilometers away from the palace, there lay an area where the tallest buildings were no more than fifty meters high.
In the heart of this prime real estate, a massive estate spanning hundreds of meters in length and width was cordoned off, surrounded by ten-meter-high white walls.
The entire estate featured only a single, five-story Western-style villa with a pointed roof, surrounded entirely by manicured lawns and garage buildings.
Over a hundred soldiers dressed in suits patrolled the grounds.
Few people ever passed by the main entrance of the white wall. Liu Zhian strolled up to it in a casual, swaggering manner.
Seeing him, a sentry stepped forward and barked, “This is a restricted state zone! Unauthorized personnel are forbidden from—”
Whoosh!
A flash of purplish-white light zipped by. Blood instantly sprayed from the necks of the sentry and the five soldiers behind him.
Splat!
Six heads tumbled to the ground as blood geysered upward like fountains.
A grin spread across Liu Zhian's face. “I won't be an outsider for long. Who knows, maybe I'll even get to be the crown prince.”
No one heard his words; the surrounding soldiers were already dead.
With a casual flick of his finger, a beam of purplish-white light pierced through the gate's lock.
He pushed the gate open and strolled inside as if taking a leisurely walk.
One, two, three... soon, ten crescent-shaped arcs of purplish-white energy materialized around his body.
Not far away, two patrolling soldiers stared at the sight, their eyes wide with sheer shock.
“What on earth is that!” one of them gasped.
The other soldier quickly reached for the handgun at his waist and bellowed, “Who are you?! How did you get in here?!”
He was trying to alert the rest of the guards.
Hearing this, Liu Zhian raised his left index finger to his lips, a chilly expression on his face. “Shh! Keep it down. Otherwise, the surprise I prepared for Councilman Feng is going to be ruined.”
Swish! Swish! Swish!
Even as he spoke, the ten crescent-shaped light wheels behind him shot forward.
The two soldiers, who had just raised their handguns to fire, suddenly froze in place.
Their eyes bulged as a thin line of blood appeared, slicing clean across their necks and faces.
