Chapter 64 · Volume 1

Heading Out

Inside a meeting room at the Security Bureau headquarters in the Capital.
Lu Senyu stared at the post on the screen before him, his brow furrowed. “Have you identified the two people in the post?”
The meeting room was packed with the bureau's elites.
Hearing the Chief's question, a middle-aged man stood up. “Chief, we've identified them. The man is Bai Yuwen. On the surface, he's the owner of a cold weapon shop, but in secret, he's the master of the Shangliu Sect martial arts school.”
“The woman is Bai Xiaohua, a high school student and Bai Yuwen's younger sister. They are orphans and have always lived together. However, Bai Yuwen was recently suspected by the local inspectors of being linked to a serial murder case. Other than that, there's nothing unusual.”
The middle-aged man spoke in one breath, laying out the basic background of the siblings.
Lu Senyu nodded. “What about information on the Lord of Evil? Has anyone found anything?”
“Chief, we haven't found any specific chronicles regarding the Lord of Evil yet. I've already requested Security Bureau personnel across the country to interview local elders to see if they can uncover anything,” someone below immediately spoke up.
Lu Senyu felt a headache coming on. Before the meeting, Parliament had given him full authority over this matter.
They had even ordered him to command from the front lines to prevent another Ningcheng incident from happening.
Lu Senyu looked at an ordinary-looking middle-aged man sitting on his left. “Teams One and Two of the Security Bureau, prepare your personnel. You will set out with me for Yangcheng shortly.”
“Yes, sir!” Team One's captain, Wang Hai, stood up.
Right behind Wang Hai, the captain of Team Two, a dark-skinned man, stood up as well.
Song Lianhu nodded. “Understood!”
Lu Senyu turned to look at the rest of the room. “Except for Team Three, which will continue gathering information on the Lord of Evil, the rest of you must immediately head to various parts of the country. I don't want a single foreign faction slipping past our borders!”
With such a massive incident and the suspected appearance of a supernatural item, he didn't even need to think to know that every faction's eyes would be red with greed, wishing they could fly over instantly.
With a collective scrape of chairs, the rest of the team captains all stood up.
“Yes, sir!”
The Security Bureau headquarters had thirty teams in total. Aside from the first five teams, which each had over a thousand members, the rest were comprised of five hundred personnel each.
Combined with the strength of local branches and the military, the difficulty for foreign factions to enter would be astronomical.
That night, factions from all sides were heading toward Yangcheng.
On the fifth floor of a residential building, Bai Yuwen had just returned home.
Ring, ring, ring!
His phone rang. He pulled it out and saw it was his disciple from the Shangliu Sect.
The call connected, and a panicked male voice came through. “Master, bad news! You and your family have been doxxed!”
Hearing this, Bai Yuwen was taken aback and couldn't help but snap, “Dafa, what kind of crazy stunt are you pulling in the middle of the night? Are you itching for a beating?”
“No, Master! Open Qiandu Forum! Photos of you and Sister Xiaohua are all over it!” Dafa said hurriedly on the other end.
Realizing his disciple didn't sound like he was lying, Bai Yuwen quickly pulled out his phone and downloaded Qiandu Forum.
As soon as it finished downloading, his phone was forced onto a specific post on the forum.
Staring at the photos of himself, his sister, and the mask on the post, his expression shifted.
How did this happen? Did he post this online? Bai Yuwen's expression fluctuated.
He glanced at the post's view count. It had already reached three hundred million, with tens of millions of comments. This was completely unprecedented in the Nanming Kingdom.
“Master, did you see it? I saw a lot of people online analyzing your mask. They're saying that based on the Ningcheng incident, your mask is highly likely to be a supernatural item. People are already threatening to come to Yangcheng to find you!” Dafa's voice came through the phone.
Bai Yuwen also realized the gravity of the situation. He was no naive fool. “I got it. I'm hanging up.”
He pulled the mask from his coat, his expression dark. This thing is an opportunity, but it's also a crisis. Since you all want to come, let's see how many lives you have to spare!
Clutching the mask, he walked over to Bai Xiaohua's room and knocked on the door. “Xiaohua, get out here quickly. We need to leave.”
Click!
The door opened, and a sleepy Bai Xiaohua, who had only just gone to bed, looked at him blankly. “Brother, where are we going?”
“Something happened. Just pack some clothes. We can't stay here anymore!” he urged, looking at her.
“Oh, okay, I'll go right now.” Bai Xiaohua rubbed her eyes. Whatever her brother said went. She quickly turned back to pack her things.
Vroom!
Just then, the heavy sound of engines echoed from outside. Bai Yuwen, already on high alert, tensed. He quickly walked over to the balcony and looked down.
At the entrance of the residential compound, over a dozen black vehicles had pulled up. Some of the windows were rolled down.
Peering through, he could see a young man inside wearing a grey tactical vest and holding a rifle.
