Looking at the information, Zhao Jin grew more and more satisfied with Tang Yongyun. He hadn’t expected to actually create a Unique Unit.
Across from him, Tang Yongyun felt his state shifting. When he swept his gaze around, the warehouse walls seemed to vanish, revealing the scene outside.
When he looked at his subordinates, he could see a black thread floating above each of their heads. It felt as though he could manipulate these threads at will.
With this thought, he looked at a gang member and reached out, grasping at the air to clutch the black thread under the man’s bewildered gaze.
Buzz!
A surge of black energy erupted from his hand and poured into the other man’s black thread, causing the originally thin line to instantly swell several times over.
Across from him, the gang member stared at Tang Yongyun, sensing that something terrible was about to happen.
The next second, a sudden sensation of suffocation washed over him, turning his face a bruised purple. “Ugh... gack!”
Zhao Jin did not intervene. Instead, he pulled out his notebook and began recording the new ability.
After one minute, the man collapsed and lost consciousness. Three minutes later, he was dead.
The cause of death was acute inflammation and swelling of the throat, which blocked his airway and suffocated him.
“So this is what it feels like to possess supernatural power!” Tang Yongyun stared at the dead man, unable to contain his excitement despite his usual composure.
Seeing that Tang Yongyun was still coherent and speaking, the surrounding crowd looked at him with a mix of curiosity and awe.
Tang Yongyun looked at Zhao Jin, the being who had bestowed this supernatural power upon him.
He harbored an immense dread of Zhao Jin, yet desperately craved a connection with him. “Thank you for giving me a new life. If you ever have need of me in the future, I will gladly do whatever you ask!”
Zhao Jin looked at him, his expression returning to a calm neutrality as he turned toward the exit. “If you want to follow me, it’ll depend on your performance. The Nanming Kingdom should be sending an investigation team down in the next few days. Deal with them first, and then I’ll consider it.”
As he walked, he tapped the corpses on the ground, converting them into Ghouls.
Before long, twenty-one corpses stood up from the ground. Their gazes were vacant and devoid of emotion.
On the other side, Tang Yongyun’s eyes flickered as he listened to Zhao Jin’s words.
Judging from what Zhao Jin had said, the investigation team was highly likely linked to him.
Even though he had obtained supernatural power, dealing with an investigation team within the Nanming Kingdom still carried a degree of risk.
With that thought, Tang Yongyun called out to Zhao Jin, who was approaching the exit, “Rest assured, I will ease your burdens!”
Zhao Jin paused, glancing back sideways as the corners of his mouth curled upward. “I look forward to your performance. My name is Zhao Jin. Remember it.”
‘Come on then. If you want to find me, you’ll have to deal with the monsters I’ve unleashed first.’ Zhao Jin walked out, his face expressionless.
Though exposure was only a matter of time, he didn’t want them to find him too easily. That would be far too boring.
They had to overcome hurdle after hurdle, just like in a game, before finally standing before him.
‘Zhao Jin.’ Tang Yongyun silently repeated the name in his mind.
Then, he looked at the twenty-one Ghouls that had risen with a mere casual tap from the man.
He was certain that the world of the future was about to undergo an earth-shattering transformation. Given his status, he had always known that supernatural forces did not exist.
But Zhao Jin’s appearance today made him realize that the absolute physical laws of the past—where supernatural powers were non-existent—were about to be shattered.
“Roar!”
“Roar!”
Low growls interrupted Tang Yongyun’s train of thought. He frowned slightly as he watched the Ghouls ahead bow their heads and feed on the ground.
“Boss!” Buck’s voice called out from among the pack of Ghouls.
Blood smeared his mouth as his consciousness reasserted control over his body.
He felt the changes in himself with disbelief. After only a brief feeding session, he had actually grown stronger again.
“Buck, you’re actually still alive?” a short-haired woman in black behind Tang Yongyun asked curiously.
She had assumed Buck would end up just like those other monsters.
Buck’s gaze, however, was fixed on Tang Yongyun. The black wing folded against the man’s side shimmered with a faint luster under the warehouse lights.
Just a single glance sent a massive wave of threat washing over him, as if the other man could crush him to death at a whim.
“Come here. We’re leaving,” Tang Yongyun said calmly.
He turned to look at two nervous gang members nearby. One was in his twenties with a buzz cut, holding a gun.
The other was in his thirties, slightly stout, and blind in his left eye, which showed only a pale sclera.
“Since you managed to survive, you’ll follow me from now on. This massive Sanhai Gang needs people to take over its operations anyway,” he told them coolly.
Although the elite of the Sanhai Gang were mostly dead, as long as he was still around, rebuilding was merely a matter of spending some extra money.
“Yes, yes! It is our absolute honor to serve you, Mr. Tang!” the blind-eyed man said excitedly.
The other young man wore a similar expression. They had initially thought they would be disposed of like the previous guy, but they never expected such a twist of fate.
“Go prepare some fuel. Once these monstrous things leave, burn this place to the ground immediately.” After watching for a moment, Tang Yongyun turned and walked away.
He still needed to experiment more with his abilities to familiarize himself with them.
Half an hour later, twenty-one dark-eyed figures emerged from the warehouse, walking briskly toward the city district.
An hour later, on a sparsely traveled road in the suburbs.
Buzz!
A blue sports car was speeding down the road. In the driver’s seat, a young man in white had an excited look on his face. “Nothing beats the thrill of street racing at night!”
“Hua-ge, slow down!” In the passenger seat, a woman’s face was pale with fright from the sheer speed.
The young driver completely ignored her. The more she screamed, the harder he pressed his foot on the accelerator.
The surrounding scenery flashed past them in a blur as the car’s speed reached one hundred and twenty miles per hour.
“Hua-ge, there’s someone ahead!” Suddenly, the woman in the passenger seat spotted a figure lying in the middle of the road under the headlights and screamed.
Huang Hua also saw the person lying in the middle of the road. His face paled drastically as he slammed on the brakes.
Screech! Crash!
But at such close range, it was impossible to stop.
“Ah!” Amidst the woman’s shrieks, the sports car ran right over the figure, losing control and flipping repeatedly.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Huang Hua felt violent impacts jarring him continuously, the concussions blurring his consciousness.
When he finally opened his eyes, the car was flipped upside down, and he had lost all feeling in his legs.
Beside him, the woman’s head had ruptured on impact, brain matter splattering everywhere.
“Help... help me...” Staring at the woman’s shattered head, he cried out in sheer terror.
Step, step, step!
Right after his cry, footsteps suddenly echoed from outside.
Hearing the sound, Huang Hua grew ecstatic. “Save me! Get me out of here and I’ll give you money! Lots of money!”
Drawn by his shouting, the footsteps approached his side of the car and stopped.
Huang Hua struggled to turn his head. He saw a pair of sneakers standing outside the shattered window, but their owner made no move, just standing there silently.
Sensing nothing amiss, Huang Hua grew anxious at the silence. “Brother, please, save me! I’ll give you a million!”
The sneakers began to move. Just as Huang Hua thought the person was about to help, a head suddenly leaned down into the window frame.
Pitch-black eyes stared directly at Huang Hua, its mouth opening to reveal razor-sharp teeth as a nauseating, putrid stench wafted from it.
Looking at this horrifying visage, terror gripped Huang Hua. “A monster!!!”
“Roar!” The Ghoul let out a low growl and lunged inside to feast.
“Ah! Help... help... he—” The screams grew fainter and fainter.
Meanwhile, in a residential community near the harbor, two figures emerged from the security booth. Covered in blood, they slowly walked deeper into the neighborhood.
