Chapter 138 · Volume 1

Fierce Battle in the Wild

In the Capital, inside an eighty-story military building located downtown, a room was dedicated to monitoring the entire operation.
A middle-aged woman stood up in a panic and shouted, “We've lost contact with the transport plane escorting the Ghouls!”
Behind her, an elder with the rank of Major General frowned upon hearing this. “Immediately retrieve the fighter jets' final footage! Check the satellites, and order the nearby garrison to mobilize!”
After issuing the orders, he hurriedly walked out.
Transporting the Ghouls was top secret. He had to notify the Special Bureau immediately to find out how and when this information had been leaked.
Ten minutes later, on the other side, aboard the high-speed train.
Beep, beep, beep!
Chu Jizhen's phone rang. Looking at the screen with a puzzled expression, he answered, “Brother Ming, what's going on?”
“The Ghoul transport has been compromised. We've lost contact with Escort Team Two in mid-air. The military found the wreckage of the two escort fighter jets near where they disappeared!” Li Xueming's voice was grave on the other end of the line.
Although Escort Team Two wasn't as strong as Team One, they were still elites of the Special Bureau. To lose contact just like that meant they didn't even have a chance to send out a distress signal.
Chu Jizhen sat up straight. “It seems the worst-case scenario has happened. But our Team One is not Team Two.”
“Be careful. I've already set out with backup to meet up with—” The line suddenly cut off, dissolving into static.
“Captain Chu, our signal is being jammed!” Beside him, a soldier captain checked his phone and said grimly.
Chu Jizhen stood up and looked out the window. The train was currently passing through a mountainous, forested area. It was pitch-black outside, and he couldn't see a thing in the distance.
“Notify everyone. Prepare for battle!” Chu Jizhen turned his blank eyes toward the soldier captain.
“Yes, sir!” The captain nodded and ordered the nearby soldiers to spread the word.
In the carriage ahead, Wen Yu suddenly sensed something and said nervously, “Something is rapidly approaching us from behind! It's extremely fast!”
“Is it another high-speed train?” Xu Mo asked, puzzled.
“No, it's a supernatural being!” Wen Yu's expression grew increasingly grim. The opponent's speed was simply too high.
Behind the high-speed train, a series of afterimages flashed repeatedly, catching up to the speeding train in an instant.
Liu Qi stared at the high-speed train ahead, projecting an afterimage inside the train.
In the next instant, his figure vanished. The glass window at the rear of the train shattered, and his physical body materialized inside.
He quickly slid open the door in front of him. In the tenth carriage, over a dozen Ghoul soldiers who had stood up at the noise locked eyes with him.
“Ha, the fight begins!” Looking at the soldiers, Liu Qi's face was filled with arrogant disdain.

The Ghoul soldiers swiftly drew their firearms while others unsheathed their blades. Although their reaction speed far exceeded that of ordinary soldiers, they were still far too slow in front of Liu Qi.
He took a step forward, striking out with both hands simultaneously.
Bam! Bam! Bam!
A dense flurry of blows echoed out. By the time he reached the door of the ninth carriage...
All of the dozen or so Ghoul soldiers had been thrown through the glass, their bodies hanging halfway out the windows as black blood dripped down.
Click!
Just as the door to the ninth carriage opened, Liu Qi suddenly shifted, dodging a dozen invisible threads that dropped from above.
Inside the ninth carriage, Liu Wangao stood with both hands outstretched, staring at him with a dark expression.
“So someone really does have the guts to try and steal the Ghouls.” Yu Renjia drew two short blades from behind his back, looking at Liu Qi with a sinister grin.
Behind him, Zhang Liu puckered his lips and whistled.
Woof! A dog's bark echoed out of thin air inside the carriage.
“Oh? Looks like the Special Bureau came well-prepared. You guys are much more interesting than those useless Ghoul soldiers!” Liu Qi looked at them with a highly malicious smirk.
Behind Liu Wangao, over a dozen Ghoul soldiers aimed their firearms at Liu Qi. The tension between the two sides rose to an absolute peak.
