Chapter 128 ยท Volume 1

The Outsourcing Incident and Xu Mo

Whir, whir, whir!
In the skies above the Capital, onboard a military helicopter, Li Xueming stood by the open cabin door with a grim expression. "According to the feedback from the vehicle, all three people on board, including the Director, have lost all signs of life!"
Inside, Wen Yu clenched her hands, looking dazed. "How is that possible? That was Director He. Who could possibly kill her?"
A minute later, the helicopter arrived over the road.
Looking down at the haphazardly parked vehicles below, Li Xueming jumped directly from a height of several hundred meters. Turbulent air currents swirled around him, slowing his descent.
As he neared the ground, he spotted a blood-soaked woman standing there.
Around her lay several lifeless men.
Thud!
Li Xueming landed but had not yet spoken.
He Wenxi turned to look at him. "Li Xueming."
"Present!" Li Xueming replied respectfully, glancing at He Wenxi, whose white shirt was half-stained red with blood.
He Wenxi's voice was flat as she stared at him with dead, lifeless eyes. "Before I return, find out who is behind this."
"Yes! I'll dig up their ancestral graves if I have to!" Li Xueming said hurriedly.
These dead men had Nanming Kingdom faces. Even if they weren't citizens, it would be simple for their country's intelligence agency to dig up their identities.
Whir, whir, whir!
In the sky, the helicopter landed directly on the road.
Wen Yu and several other Special Bureau members who had followed breathed a sigh of relief when they saw He Wenxi was still alive.
The vehicles behind them were blocked, and the drivers ahead looked at the crashed limousine with license plate Jing-00001 in shock. "Was some big shot assassinated? This is huge news!"
Wail, wail!
From behind, the sirens of law enforcement vehicles echoed, followed by troop carriers.
Soon, the blocked vehicles were guided away.
Half an hour after the assassination attempt on He Wenxi, far away in Xichang, at the Liu family residence.
Inside a villa located in the city center, Liu Zhian frowned as he read the incoming intelligence. "Didn't I spend money to hire supernatural humans for the assassination? Where did these ordinary people get the guts to accept this mission?"
Not far away, Liu Qi, dressed in a long, grey-and-red striped coat, lounged on the sofa with his legs crossed. "Brother Zhian, what's going on over there? Your money didn't get swallowed, did it?"
"There is indeed a problem. The boss spent two billion. There's no way it should have fallen to a few ordinary people to take action," Cao Liang said, standing at the villa's entrance.
Liu Zhian's face was grim as he picked up his phone and dialed. "Investigate the identity of the group that moved today. Where exactly did the money I spent go?!"
"Right away, Boss!" a respectful voice answered from the other end.
Twenty minutes later, Liu Zhian received a message. Upon reading it, his expression grew even uglier. "Damn it, how dare they half-ass this with me!"
"Boss, what happened?" Cao Liang asked, curious.
Even Liu Qi, who was lounging on the sofa, couldn't help but sit up and look at him.
Liu Zhian said coldly, "These bastards took my two billion, then turned around and outsourced the mission to a gang of hitmen for two hundred million."
Hearing Liu Zhian's words, Cao Liang and Liu Qi shared bizarre expressions.
These supernatural humans sure knew how to play the game. With a simple handoff, they pocketed 1.8 billion without doing a single thing.
"Brother Zhian, where are they? I'll go wipe out their entire family tree right now," Liu Qi sneered.
Their money wasn't so easily taken.
Liu Zhian closed his eyes, suppressing his anger. After a brief silence, he shook his head. "No need. The Special Bureau won't let them off. We'll just wait for the Special Bureau to deal with them."
In any case, when he transferred the money, he routed it through foreign channels. Even if the Nanming Kingdom authorities took action, it would be impossible to trace it back to the Liu family.
That group of supernatural humans only numbered three, and they had gathered a bunch of ordinary people to establish some Senluo Association.
As for the Senluo Association, he could crush them with one hand if he wanted to.
Liu Zhian looked at Liu Qi on the sofa. "By the way, I heard from our subordinates that a high density of Specters and Evil Spirits has appeared in Fengcheng. It seems like something is organizing them. Ah Qi, take Cao Liang with you to check out the situation."
Hearing this, Liu Qi stood up. "Sure!"
In this new era, the number of Specters and Evil Spirits appearing far exceeded that of supernatural humans.
On average, only one supernatural human was born for every fifty Specters and Evil Spirits.
And this ratio was still rising.
Time flew, and it was now seven in the evening.
Chenghua City was only a little over six hundred kilometers away from the Capital.
In a mountainous village area a dozen kilometers outside Chenghua City, a red-haired youth stood at the entrance of a two-story house, looking at the people before him with a deep frown. "Please leave. I won't join any organization. I just want to live a normal life."
"Mr. Xu, our boss offered you ten million a month. Are you really refusing that?" asked one of the two middle-aged men in suits standing opposite him.
Bang!
Xu Mo's heavy door slam was their only answer.
The two middle-aged men looked at each other in front of the closed door, having no choice but to turn and leave.
Not far away, a black sedan was parked, and He Wenxi watched the scene quietly.
In her perception, there was very little human aura on Xu Mo. If she closed her eyes and ignored his appearance, he felt more like some sort of evil entity. He was a chess piece worthy of attention.
"Director, he won't even accept ten million a month. This kid is too stubborn," said a young Special Bureau member in a suit sitting in the front of the car.
"Let's head back to the city first," He Wenxi said calmly.
Hum!
The car started and drove away from Xu Family Village.
He Wenxi closed her eyes as strange, eerie auras drifted into her perception.
Those were the supernatural auras of Chenghua City.
Inside the two-story house, an elderly woman holding a wooden cane asked worriedly from the doorway, "Mo, did someone come looking for you again?"
"Grandma, it's nothing. I've already sent them away. How could I ever bear to leave you?" Xu Mo forced a smile.
Just then, an old man in a thin green shirt walked out. He looked at Xu Mo and said, "Ah Mo, if you want to go out and see the world, your grandma and I will support you."
"Grandpa, I don't want to leave. Anyway, our family won't starve. I'll support you guys from now on!" Xu Mo patted his chest and said earnestly.
Although he didn't join any faction, whenever Specters or Evil Spirits appeared near Chenghua City and the local authorities couldn't handle them, they would pay a high price to hire him.
The money from a single job was enough to support his family. There was no need to go anywhere far.
"Brother, if you don't come eat now, I'm going to eat your chicken leg!" At that moment, a little boy walked out of the house holding a chicken leg.
Xu Mo smiled and patted his head. "Eat as much as you want. Your brother has money now. I can make sure you're always full."
Seeing this, the elderly woman with the cane showed a warm, kindly smile.
After the parents of the two brothers died in an accident, their family had relied solely on her and her husband to get by. Now that their grandson was successful, it was time for them to enjoy their golden years.
