Chen Mian sat up, staring at the panel in bewilderment.
“Third day? Level 11?”
He looked down at his hands. He was Level 130, and it had been fifty years since he transmigrated.
The system called this his “third day” and “Level 11”?
It really was late!
It was fifty years late!!
Chen Mian remained silent for three seconds before closing the panel.
At least it still worked for him.
In fact, it being late was a good thing; it made the system’s rewards seem incredibly generous.
He knew all too well that it had taken him seven years of growth just to go from Level 110 to Level 120.
His talent had once led him to believe it was his golden finger, as he had never seen anyone progress faster than him.
When he went downstairs, Flora was already in the kitchen.
This morning, she was cooking multigrain porridge, served with a plate of pickled radishes and two boiled eggs.
The rabbit was crouched by the stove, happily munching on half a vegetable leaf.
“Morning.”
“Morning.” Flora brought the porridge over and sat down opposite him. “Mr. Chen Mian, everything in the garden has sprouted.”
Her eyes were bright as she spoke.
“The Moonlight Grass is already a finger high, the tomato seedlings have popped up, and the chili seedlings too... We only planted them yesterday afternoon, and they’ve all come up today!”
Chen Mian took a sip of porridge. “Mhm, they’re growing quite fast.”
“It’s not just ‘quite fast,’ it’s way too fast,” Flora said seriously. “Even back with the elves, I’ve never seen anything grow this quickly.”
“It seems this place of mine is a treasure trove.”
Flora nodded happily. “Mhm!”
After breakfast, Chen Mian walked to the garden. The vegetable plot was a lush green in the morning light.
The silver-white seedlings of the Moonlight Grass swayed gently in the breeze.
Flora crouched down and carefully touched one of the silver-white leaves with her finger. “At this rate, we’ll be able to harvest in a few days.”
“Yeah, everything will be fully mature in four days.”
“Eh? Why are you so precise?”
“Experience.”
“Oh...”
“Mr. Chen Mian, these vegetables...” She looked up, a trace of earnestness in her eyes. “Are you really going to let me use them however I want?”
“Of course. They were planted to be eaten.”
Flora pursed her lips and said nothing, looking back down at the sprouts.
She stayed crouched there, a few strands of hair slipping from her wooden hairpin and hanging by her face. Her movements were light and slow, as if she were handling something precious.
“Um...” Flora suddenly spoke without looking up. “Could I open a small experimental plot next to the garden?”
“An experimental plot?”
“Just... to plant some magic crops I want to grow myself.” She paused. “I brought some seeds with me when I left my tribe.”
Chen Mian glanced at her. “Sure.”
Flora looked up, a smile on her face. “Thank you.”
Returning inside, Chen Mian opened the system panel for a quick look.
【Today’s Interaction: Watch the night view with Flora (+30 Points).】
Watch the night view?
...
Linyu Port Adventurers’ Guild.
This was a three-story stone building with faded flags hanging from the exterior walls and people constantly moving in and out of the entrance.
Beastkin warriors in leather armor, human mages wrapped in long robes—all sorts of people came and went. Some looked exhausted, while others were joyfully counting their coin pouches.
Chen Mian stood at the entrance and glanced up at the sign.
The words “Adventurers’ Guild” were written in the common tongue, with a metal emblem of a crossed staff and sword hanging beside it.
It had been many years since he last visited this place.
The first time he came here was on his sixth day after transmigrating. Back then, he knew nothing and wanted to take on a quest, but the woman behind the counter dismissed him for being too low-level and only gave him a commission to repair a duck pen.
It was while repairing that duck pen that he met Louise, who had come out in the middle of the night to find food.
She was a vampire girl who despised human blood and survived on duck blood instead.
Thinking back, it was actually quite interesting.
He hadn’t realized so much time had passed.
Chen Mian pushed open the door and walked inside.
The hall was more spacious than before, decorated with many more exquisite magic lamps and ornaments.
On the left was a mission board that took up an entire wall. The wooden surface was covered in parchment pinned with various commissions.
They ranged from finding a lost pet cat to subjugating demons or entering dungeons to destroy golems.
Of course, very few dared to take on high-risk missions like demon subjugation.
Chen Mian scanned the hall and walked toward the counter on the right.
“Hello, how can I help you?”
Sitting behind the counter was a girl who looked to be in her late teens, her brown hair tied in a ponytail and a smile on her face.
“I’d like to register as an adventurer.”
She pulled a form from under the counter and pushed it toward him. “Please fill in your basic information. Name, age, profession, and Magic Level.”
Chen Mian picked up the quill on the table.
Name: Chen Mian.
Age: 22.
Profession: Battle Mage.
Magic Level: 11.
Liya took the form and gave it a quick scan.
“Level 11?”
“Mhm.”
She looked up at Chen Mian, then back down at the form.
Level 11.
It barely met the minimum registration requirement for a Black Iron Rank adventurer.
Most newcomers who came here to register were around this level, but they were usually excited and full of passion. The young man before her, however, showed none of the nervousness or anticipation a rookie should have.
He didn't look like he was here for an adventure.
“I need to test your magic intensity.” The girl took a blue crystal ball from the shelf behind her and placed it on the table. “Just channel your mana into it.”
Chen Mian looked at the blue crystal ball.
He reached out, pressing his palm against the sphere, and allowed an extremely faint trace of mana to seep from his fingertips.
A weak light flickered inside the crystal ball.
The receptionist glanced at it and made a note in her ledger. “Magic Level 11. Alright, you’ve just made the cut.”
She looked up at Chen Mian, looking like she wanted to say something but hesitated.
In her experience, a mana reaction of that brightness was indeed around Level 11.
But for some reason, she felt something was off.
The way the crystal ball lit up... it seemed a bit too stable?
“Is that all?” Chen Mian asked.
“Ah, yes, all done.” The girl shook off her thoughts and took an iron badge from a drawer.
“This is your adventurer’s nameplate. You are currently a Black Iron Rank adventurer. Once you complete five Black Iron Rank commissions and reach Level 20, you can apply to upgrade to a Bronze Rank adventurer.”
Chen Mian took the nameplate and casually hooked it onto his belt.
“The mission board is over there,” the girl said, pointing to the wall on the left. “For now, you can only take Daily, Trainee, and Black Iron Rank commissions. I suggest you start with Trainee to get used to the process.”
Chen Mian nodded and walked toward the board.
【Trainee Rank: Clear sewer slimes. Reward: 20 copper coins per magic core. Location: Linyu Port Sewers. Note: No limit on quantity; reward based on magic cores.】
【Daily Rank: Find a lost ginger cat. Reward: 10 copper coins. Location: Linyu Port Residential District.】
...
Chen Mian reached out and tore off the slime commission.
He folded the slip and tucked it into his pocket, turning to leave.
Just then.
The guild doors were pushed open.
A figure walked in quickly.
Long black hair fluttered behind her, the ends slightly curled, and her features were exquisite but cold.
Most striking were her ruby-like eyes.
They formed a sharp contrast with her black hair, giving her an aura that was both noble and dangerous.
The black-haired, red-eyed girl wore a well-tailored, dark academy uniform. A rapier hung at her waist, its scabbard inlaid with faint golden patterns.
Magic intensity: Level 58.
This must be the genius girl people were talking about yesterday.
However, she seemed to be being tracked.
An extremely well-hidden trace of mana fluctuation was currently attached to the ends of her hair.
But... that was none of his business.
Subjugating slimes was more important.
He withdrew his gaze and pushed open the guild doors to walk out.
【System Prompt: Potential tenant meeting the criteria detected!】
【Name: Loviki Lawrence】
【Race: Human】
【Level: 58】
【Profession: Blazing Light Fencer】
【Rental Conditions: 1. Spar with the host. 2. Teach the host swordsmanship.】
Teach him swordsmanship???
Fine, the conditions were probably set based on his situation when he first transmigrated.
It seemed the system wanted him to ride someone’s coattails—first by building rapport with an elven mage whose mana was sealed.
And now, by having a genius girl teach him combat techniques and swordsmanship.
Though this arrangement felt a bit like living off a woman...
Why did it actually seem kind of reasonable?
Chen Mian pushed open the guild doors and walked back inside.
His act of leaving and immediately returning instantly drew the attention of everyone in the hall.
“Hello, I’m a newbie. Mind showing me the ropes?”
Chen Mian said this directly to the black-haired, red-eyed girl, Loviki.
The air suddenly went silent.
