Not long after, a creature even more massive than the Molten Armor Beast poked its head out from the forest canopy. Upon seeing its appearance, the hearts of the people on the city walls sank.
It was a giant serpent's head. Even just the portion of its body propping it up rose far higher than the crowns of the ancient trees, its form covered in dark red scales.
A foul, fishy stench grew increasingly thick as it drew closer.
A mid-stage Red Jade Rank magical beast—the Abyssal Flame Python.
Unlike the Molten Armor Beast, which excelled in defense, this creature was a pure killing machine. It possessed terrifying offensive and defensive power, coupled with lethal venom.
Aler's fingers tightened slightly around his staff, but his expression remained largely unchanged. He had seen plenty of magical beasts of this level before.
“I have to lure it away,” Aler quickly decided.
His chances of defeating this thing were less than fifty percent... If they fought here and he lost, Linyu Port would be doomed.
Just as he was about to move, a massive shadow suddenly swept across the sky, casting a vast area into darkness.
Aler looked up, his pupils shrinking to pinpricks.
In the sky was a red dragon, its wingspan blotting out the sun. Its crimson scales shimmered with a metallic luster under the sunlight. It was so colossal that even the Abyssal Flame Python looked tiny by comparison. The sheer updraft from its flight was like a raging storm, making the flags on the city walls snap and flutter violently.
The hand Aler used to hold his staff trembled slightly, a deep sense of helplessness welling up in his heart.
He had thought the disturbance in the forest would eventually settle down, but now even a dragon was launching an attack on Linyu Port. There was absolutely no way out... It had been a very long time since dragons last attacked human kingdoms.
In the face of such an existence, even a Red Jade Rank expert like him was far too insignificant.
The red dragon did not spare a glance for the people on the wall. It merely glanced at the Abyssal Flame Python's position, opened its massive maw, and unleashed a torrent of searing dragon breath that instantly engulfed the python.
Aside from the thunderous explosion, there was no other sound. Only a charred, deep crater remained where the beast had stood.
A dead silence fell over the city walls.
Flapping its wings, the red dragon circled once over Linyu Port before letting out a long, resonant roar.
The moment the magical beasts below the city walls heard the dragon's roar, they spun around and bolted back toward the Forest of Death. The dense, surging tide of beasts began to rapidly recede.
In less than fifteen minutes, the horde of magical beasts had completely vanished into the edge of the forest.
The soldiers on the wall stared blankly at the scene, no one speaking for a long time.
The red dragon glanced down at the city wall, spread its wings, and flew toward the depths of the Forest of Death, vanishing into the clouds in the blink of an eye.
Aler stared in the direction the dragon had disappeared. Only after a long while did he slowly lower his staff. He looked at his slightly trembling fingers, his eyes filled with bewilderment. “Just why...?”
“I should report the situation to His Majesty first... The anomaly in the Forest of Death seems to have been suppressed by a red dragon.” He summoned an owl, tied a letter to its leg, and released it into the sky.
As for the Forest of Death, without understanding what was going on, he had no intention of venturing deep inside. After all, the magical beasts were all returning, and barging in recklessly might anger the dragon.
...
“Chen Mian, you humans are really interesting. A group of Gold Ranks actually managed to wound a peak Diamond Rank magical beast by inventing a combined magic circle,” Velyan said with great interest, standing atop the church at the center of Linyu Port and looking toward the city walls.
“If we didn't use our brains, how could we build so many kingdoms on the Continent of Cecia with such frail bodies?” The corners of Chen Mian's mouth curled up. “But I still think Flora is the most interesting one. She made a few casual dishes, and now a greedy dragon like you refuses to leave.”
“I am not greedy! I am following my survival guide!” Velyan raised her head and said seriously.
“Yes, yes, yes. The survival guide that you add to and modify at any time.”
“You saw that?”
“Of course. One of the rules says: ‘Do not easily trust humans; humans are very cunning.’”
Velyan's golden slit pupils suddenly widened, and the tip of her tail tensed up unconsciously. Her voice rose half an octave. “I—I just wrote it down out of habit! Those words are only temporary!”
“Right, temporary.” Chen Mian nodded and withdrew his gaze. “Let's go. Back to the apartment. There's nothing left to do here.”
Velyan hopped off the church spire, her golden wings unfolding at her sides to control her descent. She landed steadily beside him, then quickly concealed her wings and followed him toward the teleportation cabin.
“Chen Mian, I want to eat grilled fish again today.”
“There's something even better than grilled fish.”
“Really?” Velyan's voice perked up slightly.
“Really. You saw those mushrooms running around in the pens this morning, right?”
“I did. Can those things be eaten?” Velyan nodded, her voice tinged with curiosity.
“Of course they can. Loviki was very resistant to them at first, but she fell in love with them after trying them once,” Chen Mian said with a smile.
“Then I want to eat that!”
“Flora is already preparing them. Just wait to dig in once we get back.”
...
Two days later, the forest had completely returned to normal, and the ecosystem of the magical beasts went back to how it was before.
The fact that it was resolved so quickly was largely thanks to the Red Dragon Clan.
Some of the various plant seeds brought over from Louise had also finally grown.
Under Chen Mian's direction, fireball-shooting peas, exploding landmines, and ambushing man-eating flowers... these strange plants were sown in specific zones outside the barrier. As a result, it became much safer for the demi-humans to venture outside the barrier in small groups, and they would occasionally bring back wild game that had been blasted to pieces.
Thus, in addition to fruits and vegetables, the apartment gained a stable source of meat, which also greatly improved the demi-humans' meals.
The wool of the sheep raised in the ranch had also reached the point where it could be harvested.
“Mr. Chen Mian, with your blueprints, we can definitely make it. Leave it to me!” Melo smiled as she took the blueprints from Chen Mian's hands, offering her reassurance.
Nearby, the demi-human girls were holding shears, carefully shearing the sheep. These sheep, having grown up in the Magic Ranch, yielded wool of a quality vastly different from ordinary wool—it was incredibly soft, delicate, and highly resilient.
However, the manual spinning wheels the demi-human girls had purchased were far too inefficient, making the cycle for producing a single piece of clothing extremely long.
The next day, Chen Mian brought Louise over to the spinning machine and explained his ideas.
With Chen Mian's ideas, Louise heavily modified the spinning wheels. Not only did she add over a dozen spindles to each machine, but she also utilized a wind magic array to achieve semi-automatic rotation. The demi-human girls only needed to lightly step on the pedal, and the spindles would spin at high speed, winding the wool thread evenly and tightly around the bobbins.
“This speed... is dozens of times faster than before!” Melo stroked the smooth yarn, her eyes sparkling with obvious excitement. “Mr. Chen Mian! With this, the clothing styles you wanted can be made in no time!”
“Great, I'll leave it to you then.”
Leaning against the doorframe, Chen Mian watched the busy yet cheerful girls, a faint smile gracing his lips. This would make clothes manufacturing much easier. He actually quite missed wearing his old world's attire, and figured he might as well popularize those styles across this land when the time came.
After watching for a while, he headed back to the apartment with Louise.
Melo watched their retreating figures, her eyes bright with clear admiration. “Mr. Chen Mian and Miss Louise are amazing... To build such a spinning machine in just half a day. If this were taken to the outside world, it would completely revolutionize the way people spin yarn.”
Over the next two days, Louise went on to create a series of simple magical inventions, including wooden carts that automatically transported fruits and vegetables back to the warehouse, automatic sprinklers, and portable harvesters. The work efficiency of the demi-humans spiked dramatically.
Until the fourth day, when a gorgeous red-haired dragon girl arrived outside the apartment...
