Chapter 22 · Volume 1

The Second Lecture at Purple Heaven Palace

The Three Pure Ones were still standing in a spot that was neither particularly conspicuous nor too low-profile.
From afar, Tongtian spotted her, his eyes lighting up. He deliberately trotted over to greet her, “Fellow Daoist Yuan Heng!”
“Fellow Daoist Tongtian, you’ve arrived so early~”
After exchanging greetings with Tongtian, Yuan Heng gave a polite, slight nod to Yuanshi and Taiqing, who were standing not far away, before continuing her conversation with Tongtian. “Fellow Daoist, seeing how happy you are to see me, have you perhaps found the answer to that question?”
“Not at all.”
The expression on Tongtian’s face fell a bit in an instant. He truly hadn't expected that even after two thousand years, he still wouldn't have figured it out.
Even when he asked his eldest brother and second brother, they refused to tell him.
Sigh~
Yuan Heng smiled and spoke with certainty, “Just take your time to think, Fellow Daoist. One day, you will surely understand it completely.”
It was only a matter of time before Tongtian established his sect and attained Sainthood. When that day came, this question would no longer trouble him.
Tongtian asked curiously, “Do you know the answer, Fellow Daoist?”
She knew a tiny bit, but she wasn't going to say.
Yuan Heng shook her head gently. “My Dao is different from yours, Fellow Daoist. Whether I say my answer or not makes no difference to you.”
In truth, she too was pondering the connection between showing mercy to life and caring for all living beings; she was also practicing her cultivation.
Tongtian scratched his head. “Then forget about it. I also believe that I will eventually find out.”
He was Shangqing Tongtian, after all. What problem in the world could stump him?
Seeing him put the question aside for now, Yuan Heng proactively changed the subject. “How has little friend Duobao been lately?”
At this, Tongtian grew excited. “Him? He’s been incredibly busy lately, running around hunting for treasures, saying he wants to refine something when the time comes.”
Oh my, that was indeed one very busy little rat.
Yuan Heng nodded. “He certainly is busy then.”
Suddenly thinking of something, Yuan Heng's eyes darted around. “Fellow Daoist Tongtian, it must be very hard on you to guide a young disciple while also focusing on your own cultivation, right?”
“If it gets to be too much, you can always send Duobao to Fangzhang Island. I can help look after him for a while~”
Tongtian: “...”
Fellow Daoist Yuan Heng, your abacus beads are practically flying into my face.
“I can manage well enough.”
His little rat didn't require him to worry at all. Petting and rolling him around was a great way to relieve stress anyway; he didn't have to put in much effort.
“Oh.”
Yuan Heng replied, thinking that Fellow Daoist Tongtian wasn't very generous.
Just as she wanted to say something else, another group of people arrived. It was Nuwa and Fuxi; the brother and sister duo had arrived.
The moment Nuwa saw Yuan Heng, she walked over eagerly. “Fellow Daoist Yuan Heng.”
Since they had already listened to a lecture together once and both sat on the six futons, they were somewhat familiar with each other. “Ah... and Fellow Daoist Tongtian as well.”
“Hm? Fellow Daoist Nuwa?”
Hearing her, Tongtian nodded slightly to Nuwa and Fuxi, who was following behind her with a helpless expression, as a way of greeting.
Yuan Heng was a bit dazed. Why would Fellow Daoist Nuwa come to find her? But then again, looking at Nuwa, she really, really wanted to call her Mommy! Sob sob sob.
Was this the grace and elegance of the Mother Goddess? ~
Nuwa’s beautiful face was filled with friendliness. “Last time, I wanted to converse with you, but then something else happened afterward... so there was no time.”
That fellow Duke of the East is truly narrow-minded.
“I noticed your Dao of Life, Fellow Daoist. It seems to share some common ground with my Dao of Creation.”
“Therefore, I would like to invite you to Mount Buzhou to discuss the Dao with me when you are free.”
Her Dao of Creation had never reached great perfection. Though she often had flashes of inspiration, she could never find the right path.
It truly vexed her.
Hearing this, Yuan Heng's heart was already screaming with exclamation marks.
Creating humanity, creating humanity, Mom!
“Since you have invited me, Fellow Daoist, how could I possibly refuse? I will certainly visit you on another day.”
Nuwa smiled warmly. “I will certainly sweep the couch to welcome you, and I look forward to our meeting.”
With their conversation concluded, Nuwa nodded to the two of them and left with Fuxi.
Once they left, Tongtian looked at Yuan Heng, his eyes full of teasing. “You’re quite popular, Fellow Daoist.”
Yuan Heng's nose instantly held high in the air. “Of course. If I weren't popular, you wouldn't have come over to get to know me, Fellow Daoist Tongtian.”
“Pfft—”
Her words tickled Tongtian. “You truly are confident, Fellow Daoist.”
Yuan Heng rubbed her nose. Is this a joke? Wherever she went, all living spirits felt close to her, and the plants and trees bloomed... she was guaranteed to be popular.
Seeing that it was almost time, Taiqing and Yuanshi called Tongtian back. “Third Brother, the lecture is about to begin.”
Looking at his second brother’s solemn demeanor, Tongtian quickly spoke a word to Yuan Heng and went back.
Sigh~ There was no need to scramble for seats this time, yet his old-fashioned second brother wouldn't even let him chat on the way to our seats.
Yuan Heng fell into deep thought as she watched Yuanshi's brother-doting behavior.
To be honest, if Yuanshi didn't protect Tongtian in this world, she would do a handstand on her lotus and livestream it to the entire Primordial World.
Tsk tsk.
The gates of Purple Heaven Palace soon opened. To Yuan Heng's surprise, Duke of the East, whom she had thought would arrive early to cause trouble for her, turned out to be the last to show up.
Arriving exactly on the dot?
Most importantly, that guy even glared at her right before entering the hall.
Yuan Heng: “...”
Bah, absolutely nothing.
From the Twelve Ancestral Witches, only Jumang and the youngest, Houtu, came this time. They even greeted her when they passed by.
Only... when they passed by Taiyi and Dijun, their eye-rolls practically went all the way up to the heavens.
The silent clash of glares between the two groups unfolded right before Yuan Heng's eyes, making her sigh internally.
The conflict between the Wu and Demon races was something they could only pretend to be peaceful about here in front of the Dao Ancestor.
Sigh.
The two small child attendants, Haotian and Yaochi, stood at the entrance like door gods. Their little faces, still round with baby fat, were filled with solemn gravity, creating an incredible sense of contrast.
Seeing how cute they were, Yuan Heng casually gave them each a cross-pear.
“Little friends, here are some for you to eat. Have them as a snack~”
In reality, Haotian and Yaochi, who had taken form slightly earlier than Yuan Heng, were speechless: “...”
Actually, it was not even certain who the younger one was.
Yuan Heng didn't mind. After giving them the pears, she walked into the main hall.
Haotian and Yaochi exchanged a look. Does this fellow Daoist treat fruits from a mid-grade innate spiritual root as mere snacks?
It takes several thousand years to bear only twelve fruits... she is indeed very wealthy.
In just a short span of three thousand years, Yuan Heng returned to her seat and looked around. She couldn't help but feel that among the three thousand guests of Purple Heaven Palace, some were missing, and some had been replaced...
How unpredictable the world is.
Once everyone had taken their places, the Dao Ancestor, Hongjun, silently appeared upon his designated futon.
Glancing down at the immortals below, particularly the few he paid special attention to, he nodded with satisfaction. Not bad. They have all made progress.
I do have some talent as a teacher, hahaha~
The lecture began.
If everyone could comprehend the first lecture, the second lecture depended on one's innate talent and karmic luck.
Closing her eyes, Yuan Heng immersed herself in the Dao Ancestor's voice, feeling as though a broad, smooth avenue lay before her.
But as she continued to advance, she found her path growing narrower and narrower. After an unknown amount of time, Yuan Heng gave up completely. This knowledge simply wouldn't enter her brain anymore.
Tsk, how frustrating! Could a smart cookie like her not understand all of this?
Sob sob sob~
Yuan Heng wept silently in her heart for a while, and then she opened her eyes.
The very first thing she did upon opening her eyes was instinctively cast her gaze toward the heads of the two fellow Daoists sitting not far ahead of her.
Seeing no flowers there, she subconsciously let out a breath of relief. Whew—thank goodness she hadn't ruined the dignity of those two fellow Daoists again.
Then she realized that this time had been a “peaceful night”—the Dao rhyme around her had not bloomed any flowers.
Yuan Heng rejoiced inwardly. Hehehe, I knew it! My control over the Dao has become much more natural and precise~
Yes!
The Dao Ancestor, who had actually swept away the strange phenomena long ago in secret: “...”
Well... reasonable.
My, look at this little fellow, secretly rejoicing here thinking she has improved. How cute.
The future Six Sages, who had awakened long ago and watched the Dao Ancestor act with their own eyes: “...”
Fellow Daoist Yuan Heng is indeed incredibly innocent and pure.
